Chicago's ban on gun sales overturned
#1
Quote:CHICAGO — A federal judge on Monday overturned Chicago’s ban on the sale and transfer of firearms, ruling that the city’s ordinances aimed at reducing gun violence are unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Edmond E. Chang said in his ruling that while the government has a duty to protect its citizens, it’s also obligated to protect constitutional rights, including the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

However, Chang said he would temporarily stay the effects of his ruling, meaning the ordinances can stand while the city decides whether to appeal.

It's the "BILL OF RIGHTS" not the bill of "needs"

Why in the world these judges stay their own ruling is completely baffling to me. It's one thing to stay a conviction or law with convictions but this? Bunch of crap..

Probably because either

1) The judge agrees with the city but needs to follow Heller. This gives him a way to follow the SCotUS's prior ruling without really interfering with the city

OR

2) The judge wants to play both sides. This way he struck down the law - while also not striking down the law (in a way). See, he is both pro-CotUS and pro-anti-gun. Rolleyes

It's so fucked up right now in the judge world. It seems like 99% of them have forgotten that their job is to interpret the laws as they are written not interpret the laws in favor of some agenda! You know damn well that NY judge that just gave the NSA an A-OK for my spying to avert the phantom "terrorism" was doing that as some kind of pro-government, self-righteous action rather than ruling the way that the constitution is written. Anyone that is willing to compromise the law of the land for some special interest or agenda no matter what it is, is a traitor to this country and the oath and ought to be dealt with accordingly imo.

#2 is my guess, it's all about playing the long game and keeping your job
