Christie repeatedly avoids questions on assault weapons

Quote:Christie Repeatedly Avoids Questions on Assault Weapons

The "Today" show's Matt Lauer, over and over again in an interview this morning, asked Gov. Christie if he would support a ban on federal assault weapons in the wake of recent high-profile mass shootings. Christie dodged the questions, and he dodged some more during other interviews this morning.

By way of context, Camden broke a record last year for murders -- 67 -- and assault weapons contributed to at least two shooting incidents a month, according to police. One murder last year was carried out with an AK-47, and most illegal guns in the city come from other states, where gun laws are more lax.

Lauer showed a Christie campaign ad from 1995, when the governor was running for state Assembly, in which he supported an assault weapons ban in the state.

This morning, though, Christie wouldn't answer a question about a federal assault weapons ban. Christie is now considered a leader of the pro-gun GOP, and he will appear this week on the cover of Time magazine under the headline "THE BOSS."

I swear the liberals in NJ like Christie more than the republicans (if there are any left) over there. In 3 years, I hope the NRA starts their campaign to trash Christie before he can even be nominated. The guy is not a republican. He's a media-whore, wanna be celebrity-type politician. It's people like him that are causing major internal conflicts and divide within the republican party. Between the republican party, tea party (which I consider 1/3 republican, 1/3 libertarian, and 1/3 something entirely else), and the libertarian party, NONE of them will have enough support to defeat the left unless ALL of them can unite.

Quote:CHRISTIE: What I'd say is states need to make these decisions, like we've made in New Jersey, we have the second strongest gun laws in America only behind the state of New York.

I guess he never heard of Illinois?

Naw, many of Illinois absurd gun laws are falling victim to something called the Constitution. Maybe some NJ gun owners should try the methods that have worked in other states.Angel

Christie is anti-gun.

He's not a rino, he's a democrat. I heard him in an interview in September of 2009 just before the election and he was asked about relaxing the strict guns laws in jersey and he said "absolutely not"

He's a grabber. In fact, I think he would be a fist pounding tyrant more in love with his own words than even Omao. The hell with Christy we had enough mainstream repeubicans in the last few elections.

Not to mention he's a former US attorney, so he's just fine with the police state. The more laws the better.Rolleyes

First. He had the opportunity to back more gun control and he declined. That's not a Democrat or a liberal response. He is smart to do nothing and let the attack dogs carry the fight.

Second. You make the mistake Republicans have been making for decades. That issues and facts and the truth and doing what's right actually matter to the voters. Playing a youtube clip of Christie dancing Gangnam style will do more for his election chances than balancing the Jersey budget or rolling back gun laws in Newark or any speech he could make. American voters are shallow and greedy.
