CNN Money Reporter Says It's Time for a Gas Tax Hike

middlefinger;48482 Wrote:diesel fuel tax is $0.63 a gallon in pa. my last full year trucking (2009) i used just under 17,000 gallons of fuel. do the math and think how many trucks you see going down the road and how much money that is.

my tags were right around $1,800 .

then you have road taxes and those depend on how many states you travel and where you buy fuel . average for me was $2,500 to $2,800 a year

then there is a federal highway use fee of $550 which you must pay and provide the receipt to renew your tags.

then there is a fee for the Universal Carrier Fee which just shows you have insurance when you are pulled over that runs $79 for 1 truck and 1 trailer and goes up for every additional piece of equipment.

and dont forget toll (tax) from eastern pa to long island and back will cost $160

alot of $$$$$$$$ but never seems to be enough

Doing the math I come up with about $16,000 for you last year, (low side estimate). What are you bitching about, a lot of people don't make that much in the first place. (We really need a sarcasm font).
It's true though, how the hell can you make a living when you pay more in taxes just to operate than a lot of people "earn" in a year. On top of that you have to pay income, Social Security, and all of the other taxes that working people pay.
WTF???!!!
There are three types of people in the world:
Those who make things happen,
Those who watch things happen,
And those who wonder what happened.
