Colorado Democrats threaten sheriffs over gun-ban testimony
#1
Quote:COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 10, 2013 — In a move reminiscent of Chicago-style mob politics, Democratic senate leadership threatened sheriffs with holding up or stopping legislation that affects sheriff’s pay unless they change their collective position on gun control.

Senate leadership is President Sen. John Morse and Majority Leader Sen. Morgan Carroll.

Sheriff Terry Maketa of El Paso County went public with the information on Saturday morning on radio station KVOR’s Jeff Crank show.

He said that he learned of the threat via email from the Sheriff’s association. Sheriff Maketa intends to press for an investigation for possible extortion and influencing elected officials, including possibly filing charges with the Colorado State Attorney General’s office.

About 30 of the state’s 62 elected sheriffs showed up in Denver on Monday to testify against the seven gun-ban bills being rushed through the state senate.

The Colorado Sheriff’s association has released a five-page letter describing why they oppose the proposals.

Assuming Sheriffs have full law enforcement powers in Colorado, if I was a sheriff then I would do whatever it takes to arrest politicians for breaking the law. No matter how minor the offense (parking violations, speeding, jay walking), cite them!

Good for the sheriffs to not play stupid games and bring this out into the public light. Lawmakers need to be called out when they try to force others to bend to their will.
Everytime we look the other way when someone else loses rights we disagree with, we make it easier to lose the rights we support.

If I would be sheriff in Colorado I would do whatever was in my power to expose these fuckers.

Agreed. Follow them 24/7 and ding them for every single infraction of every single law. Every single time. It's easy to break numerous petty regulations and ordinances in the course of a normal day.

Make sure their residences meet every single municipal code, all their pets have the proper licenses, etc. Ninja

These types of politicians will continue these crimes against the citizens until they are imprisoned and charged.

I knew several deputies when I was stationed in Colorado Springs and Colorado sheriffs have full enforcement powers within their counties with certain exceptions. This could prove to be very interesting.
