Coming out of retirement.

question
Due to the neurosis of Moms Demand Action, I'm thinking of coming out of retirement and open carrying again.

Anyone else?

I'm considering it. I'm literally right on the border of Philly/Bucks/Montco and spend most of my free time in the suburbs.

True insanity is thinking you can rationalize with space cadets like MDA. I'm sorry, but we are going to have to have you 302'd.

For me it has always depended on which sidearm is being carried as well as where I'm going and what I'm doing.

I still do every once in awhile. Sometimes it's just easier to open carry depending on what I'm wearing. Now that it's getting pretty hot outside I'll probably be OC'ing more.

I'm not sure I follow the logic here... anti-gun group wants guns banned, so we are supposed to show them more guns?

For one, I don't open carry because I prefer not to be noticed. Second, the element of surprise means a lot in a self-defense situation. And lastly, I'd rather not be the first one someone wants to take care of before they rob a store I'm shopping at. There's a reason criminals go after security guards first, they pose the the most obvious threat.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... these anti-gun groups have a strong, albeit wrong, publicly-perceived moral high-ground. We know they're wrong, hell they even know they're wrong. They're pro-police state shitheads who love it when gun owners feed their fire. They say how dangerous guns are and magically one ends up in the kids section of Target. They scream about mass shootings and now there's not a month without one, or 2. Not that it has changed much, but it's noticed more.

I know with our rights it's use-it-or-lose it... I also know that schooling morons on your rights is a lot of fun and sometimes even helps turn someone in the right direction, I get that, I really do. But I can't imagine that Mom's Demand Tyranny are going to turn tail or all of the sudden jump ship to come to our side because someone is open carrying a pistol near them. The first thing they do is get pictures, then they post them, then they show how "scary" the bad man with a gun is. I'd rather not be the "gun nut" in one of their posts.

So if they scream that they hate guns and they are trying to push an agenda of fear-based politics into our laws and the hearts and minds of the public, why would someone WANT to stir the pot? Concealing your weapon and not drawing un-needed attention isn't bending over and taking it from the anti-gun groups, it's called self-preservation. Giving them what they want isn't helping anyone.

Because pot stirring is fun.

I don't see it being an issue here in Pa.

This isn't a pro or anti open carry thread. Most if the reasons that you citied against it have been debunked, but if you want to discuss it, we'll start another thread.

This thread is only about open carry purely to thumb my nose at MDA.

I don't need to discuss the open carry topic. It's not something I'm interested in, as stated in my reasoning. To be clear, the reasons I stated are just my personal reasons not to open carry. I'm not saying it's wrong, it's just wrong for me. Nothing more, or less. And besides, as with any argument, me having reasons to conceal my sidearm, has no effect on you open carrying yours. This is literally a "to-each-his-own" type of situation.

And like I said, schooling morons is fun, I know. I do it on a constant basis in regards to a wide range of topics, but giving them what they want doesn't really seem to be anything more than fun, and in turn can be counterproductive in the grand scheme. I can drop some knowledge on one of those dumb bastards without having my pistol visible. Open carrying for the sake of pissing people off doesn't really do anything other than the intended result of pissing people off.

My concern is that with all the attention right now being placed on these people open carrying rifles, and quite a large number of people (even gun rights enthusiasts in this thread) siding with the organization even if its because carrying rifles openly is a "bad idea" and "sends the wrong message," these MDA groups and other like them will take the momentum of the lack of approval for public displays of firearms (as it applies to rifles) and lump open carrying pistol carriers into the group as well, causing stores and businesses to lay down the policies that NO firearms are allowed, because they are unable to distinguish between open rifles/pistols or concealed pistols.
