The man was pulled over by MdTA (bridge cops) police, after his license plate was ran by a scanner. Was it becasue of his Florida tags, or did the police know he had a gun because of registration/permit information?
I travel to MD frequently, having recently moved from there. I even mentioned to my wife, after recently receiving my PA LTCF, and having been pulled over three times for petty motor vehicle infractions by local law enforcement, that I thought it to be a HUGE coincidence.

While the cops in NJ were eager to get all excited trying to bust a guy for having a gun in NJ, his wife was the problem by saying "maybe it's in the glove box or console" which makes them think it actually IS in the car and he's hiding it.
Of course, it IS disturbing that someone gets pulled over out of state and then starts getting grilled on where their guns are.

How would they know he has an out-of-state carry permit? I didn't think that they would have access to that information.

That took place in MD. I driver through NJ every day from PA and probably had my license plate scanned numerous times without incident. MD seems to have a short history of doing this type of stuff.

Florida makes that information available to other law enforcement agencies.
No, I don't have a link.
Although the information might be available, why would these two databases, carry permits and license plates, be tied together? Are the police trying to suggest that this information is helpful in the dispensing of thier duties? Even if it is used as "additional information", in this particular case it appears as though it was used to target the individual as a result of being gunowner. That would be a blatant case of overextending their power, or "Big Brother" type of stuff. Bad, bad, bad...

Probably not carry permit to license plate directly. They probably have separate databases that they cross-reference, based on the name. Just a guess.

It still wreaks, although we may NEVER know, that the officer ran the tag, saw the permit issuance, and then over reacted on the gun issue.
