Conneticut Lawmaker Proposes Publicizing Gun Owners' Names
#1
Quote:Lawmakers across the state are taking on gun control issues in the aftermath of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14.

State Rep. Stephen Dargen, a Democratic legislator from West Haven, wants the names and addresses of about 170,000 handgun permit holders in the state to be made public.

Names of gun owners are now confidential, but Dargen believes if people know how many guns are spread across communities, they’ll be safer.

State Senator Martin Looney, of New Haven, is proposing ammunition control legislation, which would prohibit anyone barred from owning a gun from owning bullets or any other kind of ammunition.

“A gun without ammunition is only a club. We really need to restrict access to ammunition,” Looney said.

I see no problem with someone already deemed not legal to own firearms that falls in line with the 2A to also not own ammunition.

But it's not like that will do absolutely anything about safety. Other than give a politician a selling point in campaign ads targeted to stupid people within his voting base.

As for publishing gun permit information--that's up to the States to decide whether it's legal or not I imagine, unless a Federal law holds precedent that it's not [and I've never heard of one]. I would like to see a Drivers License database made public of all the people who have DL's, because any one of them is potentially a drunk that has a car and I would like to avoid them out of my right to live.

Pennsylvania's UFA expressly forbids publishing LTCF databases and appeals of applicants, but it says nothing about court cases launched by those who were denied gun permits. So if you are denied a permit, appeal to the county and are denied again, but then you launch a court suit--the court suit is all public record including where you submit evidence explaining why the government's reasoning for your denial is stupid; unless you can convince a PA judge to put stuff you filed under seal, which no judge will do.

I don't know that I really care if someone knows that I have guns..., I mean..., wouldn't that just tend to be a deterrent? Wouldn't a criminal target those not on the list?

Besides, I think my Gadsden flag and "come back with a warrant" door mat probably already give it away. Ninja

It appears to be working quite nicely. Somebody keeps electing these assholes.

Well, why do prohibited persons need ammunition?
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to. Smile

It would make me mad to have my name and address published...but it should make the neighbors even MORE angry now that they'll be targeted as an easy victim.

Although the homes of the gun owners may be targeted for a stake-out robbery....
