#1
H.R.538- To protect the Nation's law enforcement officers by banning the Five-seveN Pistol and 5.7 x 28mm SS190, SS192, SS195LF, SS196, and SS197 cartridges, testing handguns and ammunition for capability to penetrate body armor, and prohibiting the manufacture, importation, sale, or purchase of such handguns or ammunition by civilians.

That cha-ching sound is the sound of my Five Seven massively increasing in value. Smile

SS197 will not even penetrate a IIA vest from a five seven handgun.

I have tested rounds in 9mm, .357 magnum and there are rounds in 9x21,9x23,9x25, .357 sig, .357 magnum, 7.62mm tok and .30 carbine that will penetrate just as well as a five seven for all practical purposes, with civilian legal ammo.

This is just the first step in making certain "types" of ammo unlawful for civilian possession. Not good. Especially since I just got a Five Seven. Smile

Yea really. 5.7 is on the low end of the armor penetration scale. Hope they never realize there are more powerful rounds out there!

Certain types of handgun ammo are already illegal, based on construction.

The 5.7mm SS192, 195, 198, S4M elite load that i have seen perform so well in my tests vs body armor uses an aluminum core with a copper jacket. Since aluminum is not on the ATF banned core list, it is perfectly legal. Even SS190 steel core AP is legal for US civilians. It's just that FN refuses to sell it to the public.

Solid copper elite T6 rounds match SS190 in penetration anyway.

Considering that lead core Tokarev 7.62x25mm ammo will easily defeat many IIIA's, i don't really know what they think they can do in any realistic sort of a way.

A solid copper flat nose 9mm+P+ round would almost surely penetrate most IIIA's on the market today.

"The FN 5.7 is a lethal handgun imported from Belgium and capable of easily penetrating most police vets and plates," Brown said. "While this is the first time that such a deadly weapon has been recovered in New York City, its presence is troubling and makes the job of street cops that much more dangerous." Since 1994, 425 of the 616 police officers killed in the line of duty have been killed with a FN 5.7, the DA said."

Well, obviously if a DA said it, it must be true.

In Mexico maybe....

In the US, that is an absolute flat out lie. A huge % of officers in the US are in fact killed with their own weapon.

Found this in the comments section:

"Found it ... Check the 2003 FBI statistical report "Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted" available at http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/killed/leoka03.pdf
Table 24 from the report shows that the 425 number is the total for all officers killed by handguns (of all types and all calibres) during the period 1994-2003.

Typical totally bogus report from the DA.

Then, if you look at Table 30 in the report, you see a breakdown by caliber and firearm type (pistol, rifle, shotgun). For 5.7 it shows a total of .... zero. In fact, 9 mm accounts for about 30% of the total deaths."

So far as i know, NO US COP HAS EVER BEEN MURDERED BY A 5.7x28mm CALIBER WEAPON.

Yep, or something much more available to the general public/black market.

If those stats were true, we would have seen this pushed many, many years ago and likely from all levels of law enforcement, not from a DA or politician.
