Quote:NEW YORK – A rookie police officer shot and killed a 14-year-old boy on a street early Sunday after he refused to drop his gun and pointed it at them, authorities said.
Shaaliver Douse died of a single gunshot to his jaw after the confrontation in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
Two officers with the New York Police Department were on foot patrol when they heard gunfire at around 3 a.m. The officers responded to the scene and found the boy with a 9mm handgun firing shots at a fleeing man, authorities said.
The officers identified themselves as police and ordered him to drop his weapon, authorities said.
When he pointed his gun at them, one of the officers shot him, police said. Douse was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two officers had joined the department in January.
Douse had been in trouble with the law before.

From the article, it sounds like a good shoot. They arrived on the scene, witnessed him already shooting at someone. So they know he had it in him to fire. He refused to drop the weapon. The only question I have is how many buildings and cars were damaged, because I find it difficult to believe that the police fired one shot and scored a head shot.

If it happened as reported I'm not seeing a problem here. In fact kudos to the cop for being able to hit what he was aiming at.

If you posted this because of the kids age, he shouldn't have pointed a gun the cops saw being fired at them.

Yup it sounds like a good shoot from the details available but I bet the race game will get played if it comes out that the officers were white.

I would shoot a toddler in the face if it were capable of shooting me with no problems. Bullets don't care about the age of the person firing them.

Definitely a good shoot from the way the article's written.

Douse was arrested a week later and charged with attempted murder, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, officials said. Those charges were later dropped by the Bronx district attorney,

Well... stunning job, Mr. DA.

I guess in the Bronx, DA stands for Dumb Ass.

I actually just posted it because it was a gun news item that seemed interesting, not necessarily "because" of anything.

Actually the main thing that jumped out at me, other than the fact we have a very hardened, bold, calloused 14 year old involved, is that the media was quick to point out that it was a "rookie cop" who shot him. It seemed like an attempt by the media to make the cop look questionable.
