Cops Tase Father Trying To Save His 3-Year-Old Son From House Fire

Taking him to jail, or charging him with anything, that's over the top and just callous.

Is tasing him really a duty? They should have just tried to pull him back and if he broke away, then they did the best they could.

Tasing seems a bit much, IMO. I thought that was for criminals.

Should they have shot him instead?

The cops here are no win. Cop haters hate them for tryi g to stop him, and they would hate them if they let him run into a fire. This is no win for them, but I think here they did the right thing so long as they don't charge him.

It's a tragedy, but him burning alive would have served no purpose.

I'm not a cop hater....I just don't think tasers should be used unless laws are being broken. Should cops taser someone about to jump off a bridge? When should tasers NOT be used?

I thought the courts ruled that the cops have no duty to protect us? Charges need to be dropped though, this guy is going to suffer enough in the years ahead.

I have yet to see a cop hater on this site and I haven't met one in real life yet either so I wouldn't know. What I di kniw is that these cops violated the law imo.

The "no duty to protect" is one of the most misunderstood and wrongfully quoted decisions. It deals with civil liability and special relationships. The case is Warren vs, District of Columbia. The courts would look at all of the facts in this case to see if a special relationship existed to hold the police liable if they allowed the guy to run into the fire and die.

Sometimes the use of force by the police is necessary to prevent people from hurting or killing themselves. In this case the criminal charges were inappropriate unless something more happened that went unreported. Even so, sometimes you need to be the bigger person and take in the big picture.

Is there a better story (like local media accounts) available besides Alex Jones' site? I know how Infowars likes to "embellish" their content.

Sometimes that entails shooting someone to prevent them from committing suicide.
