Dauphin County: Get ready to take it up the poopchute

County-wide sales tax needed to help debt-plagued Harrisburg, mayor says

http://www.wgal.com/news/susquehanna-val...index.html

Quote:"If we can get a 10 percent drink tax, and a 1 percent county-wide tax, we're spreading that for all people, if we get a county-wide 1 percent sales tax. Everyone who buys food, buys clothing, you know … would pay that. As opposed to just having the onerous on a city that actually has 26 percent of its population at or below poverty level," Thompson said.

Someone needs to inform her that currently "essential" clothing and un-prepared food currently not taxed. Apparently you guys in Dauphin county aren't doing enough to bail out the city, you're not paying your "fair share".

My sister was at an event during Kipona. My sister said something to Thompson about voting for Obama and she replied that she had never voted in her life.

Thompson is an idiot. A Dauphin County tax will ensure I will buy nothing in that county. It probably would be a boon for the West Shore businesses.
He was the sort of person who stood on mountaintops during thunderstorms in wet copper armour shouting "All the Gods are bastards."

Yeah, I do agree that it would be onerous to put the onus on the entire county. Rolleyes

Maybe she really meant that everybody has to be "one of us."
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

Looks like I won't be buying anything in Daulphin Co. when I start my new job in December. What an idiot...

I meet Thompson before she was mayor, while I was removing some illegally parked vehicles in downtown harrisburg. She seemed knowledgable and talked like she was interested, but from what she has said/done lately, it proves first impressions aren't everything

I work in Dauphin county and i will not spend 1 cent there if they raise the counties taxes to bail out the city.

Time to contact businesses in Dauphin and tell them you won't shop there if it passes. Bass Pro included.

So who is the debtor? Dauphin County or the City of Harrisburg?

The entity that assumed the debt is responsible for paying it off. If the debt was assumed by the City of Harrisburg. Apply the taxes to the city not the county!

Must be Democrats in charge! They assume the debt but want everyone else to pay for it.
