WASHINGTON - Several members of the D.C. Council have come out in favor of restricting the sizes of sugary sodas sold in the District - a ban similar to one in New York City.

At a recent debate between candidates for the at-large council seats, current Councilmembers Michael Brown and Vincent Orange said without hesitation they would vote to ban the sale of large drinks.

That news was music to Councilmember Mary Cheh's ears.

"I'm very excited by that," said Cheh (D-Ward 3), who fell one vote short of passing a tax on sodas and other sugary drinks.

Cheh authored the Healthy Schools Act and says she thinks the New York City ban is a good idea she'd like to bring to the nation's capital.

"If I could get the votes to do it I would certainly try to put that in place," Cheh tells WTOP.

But... but... but... I thought that if we focused on the small problems the big ones would go away on their own. Personal pride and all. Rolleyes

I wonder if liberals ever sit back and seriously look at themselves and the results of their policies. If it wasn't true, I think it would be a hilarious joke.

My question is what the fuck is the beverage industry doing while these cities destroy their markets? Most people are not going to buy 2 soda's to make up for the one big one they could sell. This is the city after all though that re-elected Marion "Bitch set me up!" Barry after he got busted smoking crack with a prostitute. The liberal mind is an amazing thing to behold.

What really bugs me about all this is that everybody knows that a 32 ounce fountain drink NEVER contains 32 ounces of soda, unless you request "no ice"......

Gotta love the government, with so much time and money on their hands they have nothing better to do but police our buying habits.

I read somewhere just this week that the soda companies were preparing to sue NYC for their ban.

I read that too....I think a few local businesses too, right? Because businesses make a very large profit on large fountain drinks. Especially ones with tons of ice in them....
