HOWARD DEAN: The only problem is -- and this is initially going to seem like heresy from a progressive is -- the truth is everybody needs to pay more taxes, not just the rich. And it's a good start. But we're not going to get out of this deficit problem unless we raise taxes across the board, to go back to what Bill Clinton had and his taxes. And if we don't do that, the problem is the pressure is going to be on spending even more.

This is certainly going to be an unpopular thing to say, but it's refreshing to hear truth once in a while. This is probably one of the most sane things this nitwit has said in recent history.
If we don't cut spending, which we know isn't gonna fly very well with Obamaphiles, there is no alternative. We have to raise taxes.
It will be interesting to see how these middle America Obama voters will react when they realize the people being taxed will actually be them. They're still clamoring for the My2K tax cuts. I think they're still drunk or hung over from celebrating the re-election of their messiah. They honestly believe their taxes aren't going to go up. They still think the rich will pay it all.
That sledgehammer is gonna hurt.
Schadenfreude shall commence anon.

No question. I don't see anybody in power willing to do what needs to be done to achieve balance.
It's an ugly cycle, isn't it?

I agree about half.
Everyone should pay taxes. If everyone were taxed, no matter how small their income, we might see more opposition to the ongoing BS in Washington.

Dean is only partially right. Taxes need to be adjusted and everyone must pay into the system. Additionally there needs to be cuts to the current level of spending (going back to the 2008 spending level would do for a start) and caps as maximums set on revenue collection (say 20% of GDP) and spending (say 17% of GDP). Then the government and all its programs and departments must be reviewed and the worthless or duplicate eliminated.
