DEFCAD files and site in control of DOD
#1
DEFCAD (the people who published the 3-D printer gun files) has had the files remove and a banner at the top of their page states:

"DEFCAD files are being removed from public access at the request of the US Department of Defense Trade Controls. Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information"

Shrug They've been downloaded how many thousands of times already? I'm not even going to look, but I bet there's torrents already running with all the files available.

Right now they are running around trying to get as many mirror sites up as they can.

I would call this an incredible story but unfortunately with this administration it isn't. Nothing that this administration does surprises me any more. They'll probably even try to charge the crew over there with some type of federal violation that will get them jail. Angry

This is truly a case where the genie is out of the bottle, the barn door was left open and the horses are gone, pandora's box has been opened. There ain't anything the feds can do about it now. But I guess we'll see what they'll try to do, we'll get to see how much power and how much reach they have as sites go up and get swatted down.

The interesting (and scary) part of this is if they will attempt to trace the ip addresses of anyone that downloaded it.

There's always TOR but lord only knows if they'd be able to track people down who accessed the files that way.

Just reading a story on BBC where DEFCAD states they have already had 100,000 downloads:

Taken down based only on a request or a court order?
