As long as you understand you'd be in the same boat as the OP. You can't use deadly force to protect property.

It may cause a new law to be written. The Baconfat statute. Not the shirtless wrestling one either.

...all that being said, if another person shoots my dog, I will shoot them. Period.

As others have said, observe, record and report.
Whose property are you? Humans are animals nothing more nothing less. Just more intelligent than the rest of the kingdom. Not saying i disagree, u WOULD be in a load of trouble for lethally defending a dog.

I just feel i wouldnt be able to watch it happen. As always firing my gun would be a last resort. Violent retaliation of some form would be emminent and deserved for any sicko that would do that to any animal

LMAO. Yes, anyone who'd torture an animal is sick. But, it's still an animal, and as such, has no rights to speak of, like the right to life. Animals are just another commodity, to be bought, sold, traded, and owned, at our convenience. I have no more right to shoot someone who I caught torturing an animal than I would if I caught someone running away with my TV. If you really think you'd shoot, then Jumbo was right, and you have no business carrying a gun. Your judgement is already in question, given that you've put humans and animals on a level playing field. Get a haircut, hippie.

Animals are not just another commodity, or it would not be illegal to kill and torture them if they belong to you.

They are a special sort of property, and even when they're no one's property, you can get into immense trouble for killing one. Go shoot a bald eagle, see what happens. o.O

I'm betting that a defense attorney would make damn sure that members of the jury don't just view animals as property. Lets face it, many people that I know with dogs look at those dogs as part of their family not just placed in the same category as let's say a coffee maker or TV. I really think there is or should be a difference between a hunk of metal and a living thing. Call me crazy.

If you're to the point where a jury is involved, you have already lost BIG TIME.

You know what a jury trial is if you're the defendant? A giant hole in the ground that you pour buckets of cash into and pray it doesn't swallow you up for the next 20-25 years.

I love my dog as much as the next guy, and while anyone who hurts my dog is in for a huge ass whippin', I'm not about to kill over him. Now, if it occurs during a home invasion, and I'm in fear for the safety of my family...

I may humanely dispatch an animal I own. I can't set it on fire but I can lawfully put a bullet in its head.
