Does size really matter?
#1
The wife has decided to get me a shotgun for my birthday this weekend. I am set on 12ga pump.

This will be for turkey shoots, and home defense. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't hunt anything but paper.

My question is, the difference between an 18" and a 22" barrel. Will that really make any difference in a turkey shoot? I plan on running full choke. And a home defense gun with a 22" barrel ...the thought just feels cumbersome.

Any thoughts?

Probably not a ton, but you could always get a purpose built turkey gun, my 835 is only 18 inch but being backbored, extra full, and 3 and a half inch it hits pretty damn hard. Really not sure how it would do with light turkey shoot loads, I am sure the back boring would still help, though.
I'd let ya borrow it, but my nephew has it.

Well I picked a cheap one. I don't like the idea of her spending money on me. Just a pardner pump.

I just don't want to lose too much pattern by going four inches shorter.

I really don't think barrel length is going to do much as far a patterning is it?
Velocity maybe.

IMO, the choke is more important.

Actually, it looks like the he version isn't setup for a choke. Looks like I am going with a longer barrel. Maybe. I hate decisions, and the wife doesn't want me to get both lol.

Hot the turkey model, longer barrel. Got it home, oiled it up, and I'm at a turkey shoot right now. Expect a range report in the morning.

Too late but I was going to recommend the twenty-two. Good pick.

Can you swap out barrels on the Pardners? Those a cool guns. I've got one on my 'eventual' list. Received a very favorable review on TTAG.

Everything I have found, you send everything but the barrel into the factory to have it fitted. 870 barrels don't fit, some say you can modify them. I don't want to be that picky on it.

Going to get a sling for it, and maybe a different stock.

From what I can tell, it is a heavy duty 870 clone. Came with a modified choke, and a wrench. Not a bad buy for $179

Longer barrel means more room for longer mag extension.
