Doylestown Township Preemption Violation
#1
Doylestown Township has a preemption violation in their Parks regulations:

§119-9 (a) states:
Other than an officer of the law, no person shall carry or discharge a firearm, rifle or other weapon within the park system.

Curiously, it doesn't seem to be on the rules sign at Central Park, which is otherwise quite comprehensive.

Exactly one month ago, I emailed the Township Solicitor, Jeff Garton, pointing out the issue and asking when it would be resolved and that the Township PD be instructed not to enforce it in the mean-time. CC: the 4 of 5 Board of Supervisors members who have posted email addresses.

No response.

Today I emailed a follow-up to the Supervisors reminding them that they regularly ask for my vote (two terms are up in December) and indicating that I plan to share their response or lack thereof with the membership of Bucks County Fish and Game (which donates range time to the township for police training days several times yearly) and with the Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County.

Perhaps it's time to apply for a permit for a little Open Carry "picnic" in Doylestown's Central Park!

As of now, both Doylestown Township and Borough have removed the offending language in their statutes.

They would do nothing until the recent law made them liable to lawsuits. Their insurance companies and solicitors convinced them to act now.

Thanks for the update! Cool
