Driving to Nebraska
#1
There's a chance I will be driving to Nebraska before National Carry is enacted and I only have my PA LTCF. I know I will have to avoid Illinois since they barely let their residents carry (legally) and they don't recognize any other states permits for carrying.

Does anyone know where to go to find out: what states issue permits for non residents, and what permits the states (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska) I will be possibly be driving through will honor. I won't be going into all of those states but if I have to maneuver around Illinois I want to make sure I have surrounding states covered.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A Utah Non-resident will get you all but Illinois. The requirements for a Utah permit are a a valid permit in the state you reside, and a class. You will have to look around for a class as I don't know of any scheduled at this point. The paperwork turn around time is currently running at around 60 days. You can find most of the the permit info you need at usacarry. Good Luck

Go to this page: http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_..._maps.html

Click on "State(s) that honor my permit", then click on "PA", then click on "Resident".

Now you can see all the states that do and do not honor PA's license.

Now click on Utah and notice that all the red states that do not honor your PA LTCF will honor a Utah permit. Best bet is to clear out the map and click on Utah non-resident, you will still see you can carry in Nebraska, and although you may still want to go around Illinois, you would be good in the other states.

If you don't want to go around Illinois you should have FOPA protection there, but you cannot carry or keep your gun loaded, it will have to be transported according to FOPA.

With PA and UT non-resident you are legal to carry in 37 states. But don't forget to look at each state you are passing through because they have differing rules on carry: prohibited places, must inform rules, etc.

it's still a big confusing patchwork so do your homework.

IL State Police...Question #4

Effecitive July 9, 2013, You can drive straight thru IL with a loaded gun in your vehicle if you are eligible to carry under the laws of your home state. Since you can carry in PA you can carry IN YOUR VEHICLE in IL.
