Favorite .45?
#1
So what is your favorite .45? Window shopping online.... we had a .40 Llama which was junk so we got rid of it, but I LOVED shooting it (when it actually worked) because it was heavy, had a single action trigger, and the weight absorbed a good amount of recoil.

Looking for something similar. My husband said he thinks the Springfield Armory 1911 would be a good choice.....do you guys agree? It looks awesome but I haven't shot one.

We are looking at it for home defense, not carry. I like a double-action, long trigger pull for carry, for safety reasons...but don't mind a single-action, low-recoil, heavy gun for home defense and also something comfortable to practice with, even though the ammo wouldn't be cheap.

Springfield makes a great out of the box 1911. I'm looking to get my first someday and when I do it will most likely be a Springfield. Of the 45s that I do currently own, I would recommend taking a look at the Sig 220. It really is a nice shooter and you can get the best of both worlds with trigger pull. The downside to buying Sig is price, and then when looking at the 220 specifically you start to wonder why not just get a 1911 because you are creeping into the same range. Don't get me wrong Sigs are great guns and worth every penny IMO.

Either way you go the 45 is a pussycat to shoot especially compared to a 40. You'll find that you can handle a lot smaller gun in 45 with greater ease.

I have a Taurus PT1911 and have had no problems with it. Also have a Springfield XDs and an XDm (for competition).

I love my 45s

If you can find one, Ruger SR1911. It has everything a 1911 should have. If you want to go the DA/SA route, then I say Sig P220. If you want a striker fired .45acp, then the Ruger SR45 looks awesome, but I would give it some time in case they have a recall soon. I would also check out Springfield XDMs, but just know Springfield mags can be expensive (but so are sig mags too).

Are you tied to the 1911 platform? Are you tied to a pistol?

Springfield is good. I carry a Kimber ultra carry. I have a XD45 that is fun to shoot.

Smith makes a nice revolver in 45. It is the 625.

Not necessarily although I have not shot a revolver for some reason. We were looking at the Taurus Judge just for fun, since it shoots shotgun shells and would do serious damage. I would want to shoot it first before buying. Seems like it would have some awful recoil with the shotgun shells.

Hadn't looked at the Ruger SR1911 before, that looks nice too. (Obviously I like Ruger haha) Keep the suggestions coming, thanks all!

If going that route, look and the S&W Governor. 410, 45 Colt and 45acp
