Belle Harbor Manor resident Robert Rosenberg, 61, who suffers from a spinal disability and has other chronic health problems, sits in his room in an assisted living facility in New York, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, where he and elderly, poor and disabled residents endured four months of misery after Superstorm Sandy flooded the center, located on New York's vulnerable Rockaway peninsula. The residents of Belle Harbor Manor spent four miserable months in emergency shelters after Superstorm Sandy's floodwaters surged through their assisted-living center on New York City's Rockaway peninsula.

Now, the home's disabled, elderly and mostly poor residents have a new headache: The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked at least a dozen of them to pay back thousands of dollars in disaster aid.
das, proud to be a member of since Sep 2012.
I never realized that aid money was a loan.

I guess I don't have a problem with it if the people are made aware of it and sign something. Otherwise, if they signed nothing, they owe nothing.
Error 396: Signature cannot be found.
Duh! The reason of course is that it's perfectly for government employees to waste money non-stop, but it is NEVER ok for citizens to waste money in the name of the government.

I would like to point out though... I'd like to see the contract these people signed in order to get these funds. If there is anything in there that says they may be held liable for these funds then fuck the people who spent it all. On the other hand if they didn't sign anything the government can go pound sand try try to squeeze blood out of a stone. I'm fairly certain there was a clause somewhere in the agreement they signed that they overlooked saying they could be held liable for this money or the government would know they don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to collecting. I think the reason they want this money back is because not enough of the people effected by Sandy voted Democrat so they need to redistribute that wealth to people with less "privilege".
