Fiscal Cliff Resolution

What do you think will happen? What do you think should happen?

Markets hate uncertainty. The longer this goes on the more potential for serious economic damage. I think they will be unable to reach a long term agreement, but will make another short-term agreement that solves nothing and just pushes the problem 6 months down the road. Tax reform will be pushed back as well, since they can't agree. Therefore, we will get downgraded again, but that's preferrable to going over the cliff (in most people's minds).

What I would like to see happen is the Republicans draw a line in the sand. No tax increases and real spending cuts on entitlements and defense. I don't care if it's damaging politically and I don't care if it hurts the economy. It's the right thing to do for the future.

However, Boehner has no balls whatsoever. The only thing that might keep him from compromising with Obama, is the freshman and sophmore class of conservative Rep's who came into office the last 4 years.

I think nothing will happen, and i think nothing should happen.

I think the best way to save ourselves in the LONG term is to drive right over that cliff.

If Mitch McConnell decides to be a dick and not keep his fat mouth shut, then I would expect it would motivate Democrats to sit and do nothing until January 20th all the while everyone goes apeshit and the Democrats are sitting pretty with the best bargaining chip in the world and the next election far, far away.

Instead of the House GOP threatening to not call up Senate legislation, they will instead be begging for the cliff to be "bridged". Obama is now sitting around without the burden of having to worry about another election ever again, remember?

But that's only if talks break down over the next 4 weeks.

I've already said this---there are a LOTTTA rich people who are freaking out right now and picking up the phone and demanding that a deal gets done. NOW. The House GOP is getting unbelievable pressure that none of us can see to tone the rhetoric down and come up with something.

Obama doesn't have a re-election, but a shit ton of congress critters do in 2 years.

This is part of why the President becomes a lame duck so quickly in the US in his second term.

The democrats have no new particular bargaining chip now that is going to force the hand of an even more entrenched republican party. One that has a substantial majority in the house, and a filibuster minority in the Senate.

Literally no bill will get to the pres's desk through congress unless the R's want it to.

I believe Ron Paul:

We flew off the cliff. Now we have to see where we land. IF a bridge is made, it will only delay the inevitable on the bill now past due.

As painful as it is going to be, and hard as it will make life for all of us and all of our children, I absolutely agree 100%. We are past the point of no return. It's not just our government that is out of control, it is our entire culture.

90% of Congressmen don't even know what Austrian economics is. Even if they did, politicians will never accept an economic theory that conflicts with their desire for central planning. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you 100%, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

I think that Boehner will do some sort of deal that will fix nothing and still make it easy to blame republicans for not giving democrats what was needed to fix things.

What should happen is block & blame. Block everything and blame every problem on democrat socialism. "This is what people voted for on Nov 2012 when they voted for democrat socialism".

That would be my answer to every question on every TV interview. Until people understand what they did and what they are doing, there is no hope for conservatism. Those who voted against it, must show those dumb-asses who voted for it, exactly what they voted for.

I would not cooperate. I would give democrats nothing. I would just block everything. Fuck those jerk-offs.
