I think what you're missing is that being stopped to fill out a form is not some huge horrible rights violation, but it is a small rights violation just the same. The problem is when you let the government have their small rights violations, then you get things like the police copying the contents of your cellphone at a traffic stop (happened), from there you get the police stopping you for DUI checkpoints (happens all the time), which really are just excuses to look for other crimes...Give it a couple more steps and you have to submit to a quarterly inspection from the state inside your home for subversive materials or other possible crimes. It's a slippery slope and we can't let them go one more inch with it than they already have, it doesn't matter what it is.
