I just started loading my 45-70 with 12gr Trail Boss behind a 405gr lead bullet. These are being shot out of my Buffalo Classic. Have yet to chronograph them.

Muzzle- 1100-1150 velocity , 100 yds. about 1000 + - 40 fps. .
My friend is the genius here , not me .I am looking to buy my own set-up ,but with his help. No (Sqiub) yet.
Thanks.
PS: It's the Marlin 1895 model .45-70 GOVT. with 22" barrel.

My Buffalo Classic has a Lyman 17AHB globe on the front and a Williams FP-H&R-TK on the rear. The rear sight is elevated 3 hash marks up from the top, which leaves me with about another 3/4" of vertical adjustment. That allows the rifle to have a 100yd zero and should easily allow shots out to 300-400yds if I ever feel the need to try it. Recoil was almost non-existent when compared to loads I made with IMR 4985, and there was no residue in the bore compared to the 4985 which left it full of garbage.
