VERY COMFORTING. das

Scientists last week discovered several vials of smallpox — one of the deadliest diseases known to man — in an unused storage room at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., according to officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. http://www.wusa9.com/story/news/health/2.../12364465/

Dumb fawkers. I was just there doing an audit a month ago or so. Were they capped/contained at least?

I hope this wasn't Building 10? Near the big loading dock?

And to think THEY wanted to inspect MY van.

One would think or at least hope they were a bit more careful with things that dangerous. I believe the report said that the vial(s) were sealed.

I just remembered how we used to drive on to the several army bases in that area (no PX/BX/uniform shops in Thurmont, MD). On of those bases was Fort Detrick... A location with Biomed research in infectious diseases and testing. No MPs at the gates, nothing. Just roll right in. Brilliant.

I read they were in sealed vials in some sort of box.

Nice to know that they keep deadly bacteria in dusty abandoned storage rooms. LOL.

"Overnight genetic testing in a top-security lab confirmed that the vials did indeed contain smallpox, but CDC officials say they will need to do additional tests to find out whether the smallpox is viable or able to reproduce and spread. Testing could take up to two weeks. CDC scientists will destroy the smallpox samples after finishing the tests."

Are you fucking kidding me? They are gonna destroy them either way, why bother fucking with them for two weeks? Isn't that like playing with fire, just for the hell of it?

Might be a different strain they can use. Gotta make sure, you know. Wink

I enjoy every minute of it.

I assume it is because if they find out it is viable, they will have to decontaminate the entire building...or at least the storage room. If it's all fully dead, then the building is probably okay too.

What about that little building that sits in the middle of the open field at Edgewood, MD, with razor wire all around? I'll bet there's a vial or ten "forgotten" in there.
