Free Float Rail help needed.
I'll soon be building a new upper for AR precision shooting/comps (DMR style) but I need some help finding a a rail/handguard.

Looking for free float with the strength to support a bipod under load... I don't need to mount anything else... just the bipod. I've seen tubes but they seem more spacegun or 3 gun style and don't look strong enough for using a bipod with.

It just seems stupid to get one of the many available bulky 4 sided rails and then just add even more weight with trim panels when I only need to sometimes attach a bipod.

Any suggestions?

I like the Midwest Industries SS series. I have one on my 18" rifle and have no complaints, it can definitely support a bipod. Mine is a gen 1, the gen 2 they are selling now looks like it just has a different hole pattern. I don't have it installed in my pic but it comes with a 4" picatinny strip that you can mount anywhere you want.

The law? The law is a human institution...
I have a Yankee Hill smooth free float quadrail on mine. It's fairly lightweight and isn't covered front to back with rails. It's got a full length top rail and short sections at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock.

If you just want to mount a bipod...PRI makes a great carbon fiber one. Not cheap, but carbon fiber is the way to go for strength and weight savings.

Clark Customs also offers a carbon fiber forearm and it's much less compared to PRI.
