Front sight interchangeability question?
#1
I picked up an old Remington Model 514 for really cheap. It's pretty beat up and perfect for my intended use. I cut the stock to shorten the LOP for my granddaughter and did a function test. It's mechanically good but the bead is broken off of the front sight. I checked Numrich and they are sold out, it's only a $10.00 part if it would be in stock. It looks like any other dovetail fit front sight and I'm thinking there must be others that are the same size. Can anyone tell me if it's a standard size and easily interchangeable with most other front sights of similar rifles or if I have to find one specific to the Model 514. Numrich lists a Lyman replacement for the Model 510, 511, 512, and 521, but the originals are sold out for all of those too. They don't list the Lyman replacement for the 514 so it leads me to believe that the 514 must be a different size.
Can anyone help me out with this one? Will one of the others fit or is the 514 a different size. Where might I look for an aftermarket replacement, (or an original)?
Searching eBay I found listings that claim their sight will fit Models 510, 511, 512, 514, and a few others. If that's true, why doesn't Numrich list the same Lyman replacement for the 514 as it does for the other 51x series?
I don't want to start a collection of front sights but I do want to get this rifle in shootable condition for the kids.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I checked my .22 cal Remington 572 but it mounts the front site with a pair of screws and not a dovetail.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Yes, there are two distinctly different styles. I was hoping to find out that all of the dovetail styles are the same size and interchangeable but the fact that Numrich lists a Lyman replacement for some but not all, makes me think that it may not be that easy.

OK, here's what I found. I came across a Remington Model 510 that's in even worse condition than the 514 is, it's missing the bolt and the cost of a replacement bolt far outprices the value of the gun so I used it as a donor. The front sights interchange, problem solved.
