Full Audio 911 call; Woman kills stalker
#1
Quote:This is an amazing dose of reality on many levels. It’s the 911 call of a woman whose house is being broken into by a stalker. The call goes on for a few minutes while the woman locks herself into her bedroom with her newly purchased handgun, as instructed by the 911 operator. Eventually the stalker breaks into her bedroom and, let’s just say it doesn’t go well for the stalker.

But what really struck me was the agony she portrayed after being forced to shoot him. Clearly it wasn’t something she wanted to do but this perp forced her into a difficult situation and while she still has her life, there’s no doubt that she’s traumatized immensely by the whole event and will now have to deal with that.

But thankfully she bought a gun that day and learned how to use it. And she’s alive to tell the story.

Listened to it. Wow that's great she had the gun. Evidently she'd had enough of the stalker...sounded like he'd slashed her tires or something a few days before. Glad she took action and got the gun when she did, although as you said, poor lady is going to have to take some time to get past this.

At least she has the chance to get past it though.

It always gets me how calm and detached the 911 operators are, but I know they kind of have to be.

I would have thought the sound of a gunshot would have been unmistakable, but I really can't tell at what point she shoots him. I hear a noise, but assumed it was the door being busted in. Maybe that was it.

Funny. The dispatcher says "It's only been 2 minutes" - and it was just over FOUR minutes when she said it.
Good example of what can happen in just a few minutes while waiting for the police to come and "save" you.

I know, I thought it was the door too....evidently, though, it was the gun, because then she freaks out and drops the phone....

It happened in Hammond Indiana 11/14/07

Quote:Ryan Lee Bergner, 41, of the 3000 block of Crane Place in Hammond, was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds to his abdomen shortly after 10:30 p.m. at a local hospital.

His death marked the end of an escalating sequence of violent acts against the 51-year-old woman. It began with a single date in June, she said.

"I didn't want it to turn out like this," the woman said Tuesday afternoon while removing yellow police tape from the back of her house in the 6900 block of Tennessee Avenue.

Just hours before, the woman was watching television in her living room when she heard Bergner break a bathroom window near her back door. She called 911, police said.

The emergency operator advised her to lock herself in her bedroom until police arrived, and she ran upstairs to do so, retrieving a pistol given to her for protection by a friend earlier in the day.

Bergner already had broken into her house through a back window over the weekend, destroying a clock radio and stealing several of her undergarments, she reported to police Saturday,

Police records show Bergner also had tried to kick in the woman's front door a week earlier after accosting her at her job and being ejected from the business by her co-workers. He also was suspected of slashing her Jeep's tires on at least two occasions, police records show.

"This isn't over yet," Bergner told her Nov. 3, according to police reports of the incident.

Hiding in her closet on Monday night, the woman said she heard Bergner enter the bedroom, then watched as he opened the closet door. She said she told him to stop, but he kept coming.

She fired the 9 mm semiautomatic three times. "I was shaking so bad, I didn't think I'd hit him," the woman recalled Tuesday afternoon.

"He just kept coming." Now in the closet with her, Bergner grabbed the woman's neck with both hands and began choking her, she said. "And then he just stopped," she said, finger-shaped bruises still visible on her throat 17 hours after the struggle.

Police found her in her front yard when they arrived moments later, and they found Bergner -- wearing black leather gloves and a brown leather jacket -- lying partially in the bedroom closet, On the bed nearby was a Walther PPK pistol.

I belive the first shot was at 5:10. The second two if I were betting, were pressed into his abdomen. She fired three shots. She also stated he suddenly stopped choking her. That is why I belive the other two shots are not noticable, because the muzzle was pressed against his body.

She says in the recording that she had bought the gun the same day. Lucky for her, Indiana does not have a waiting period to purchase. The two minutes between when he gets his hands around her neck and when the call ends as police arrive are more than enough time to strangle a person to death.

Lesson again.. Once the subject is identified, shoot, don't pause. No need to let them get close or even warn the fuckers.

The article stated she got the gun from a friend.
