It would appear the tide has turned, more Americans fear losing "entitlement" money than they fear being on the hook to the government for more money,...

Poll Shows Americans Fear Entitlement Cuts the Most in 'Cliff' Talks

http://www.nationaljournal.com/daily/pol...s-20121210

Because more voters get more back than they pay in,...

As all votes are equal, then democracy dictates the takers can take more and more from the givers just so long as the redistributors elected by the takers follow through on the redistribution,...

The only options left to the givers is to accept the takers acquiring an ever growing percentage of their labors or to remove themselves from the clutches of the takers,...

Welcome to the fundamentally changed America,... until it collapses, of course.

Who here takes? I work for a living and pay several thousand dollars a year in taxes.

Explain. I've paid over 40K in taxes thus far this year. How am I a taker?

Lets start with the obvious like Mortgage Deduction and the fact that nobody here pays their full share of health care. Even somebody like me who pays for 13 people takes all allowable fed credits. Which BTW, I became on expert on this week as we are right in a middle of a full IRS audit. Don't get me wrong, I would give a nut to 'only' pay 40K but we all deduct out the ass, especially the very scared small businesses.

And I'm not even going to talk about such favorites as Medicare, which I don't think anybody will be giving up when their time comes. Last study I saw was that the average person will get over $ 100K more benefits than they paid into the system. And that was before the Drug plan was added.

Point is that we all bitch about the fat black witch with 3 kids getting food stamps and not a peep about what a mega business like Exxon Mobile writes off. The entitlement mentality lives and we are all part of it.

You've failed to explain why I'm a taker.

I'm a single white male, who rents, I get no deductions, and I'll owe on April 15th.

My company covers 85% of my healthcare. I ain't taking it from anyone, it is a benefit provided to me by my company, in exchange for my services. When they give me a "total compensation" review at the end of the year, that figure is included in there as part of my compensation package, because that is exactly what it is..., compensation for services rendered.

Even if I partake in medicare and SS, which I will if available, I've paid in the maximum most of my life. That isn't an entitlement mentality, as the term is normally used, no matter how much you want it to be. Am I entitled to derive benefits from a system that I paid into? Of course I am. That isn't what we're talking about here, and your false equivalency is laughable.

Thanks for the attempt, though, I do appreciate it.

Justin

PS In regards to your Exxon red herring, of course I bitch about corporate welfare, same as any other.

Even if you take out more than you put into the system?

Oh, you really need a new accountant Tongue

Its supposed to be a growth account, right?

That said, I'd rather they cancel it and refund my contributions, I could do better with it.

To be clear about my point of this thread..., it isn't to decry those truly in need..., capable adults who fell on hard time due to this economy. I do believe that we, as a society, should help those people when times are tough, and therefore do not agree with cutting unemployment, welfare, food stamps, WIC, etc. My family used those services many times when I was growing up, so I understand the need. However, along with that use came guilt and shame, and hard work to get off of them ASAP.

Today, though, this poll shows that more Americans than ever before see these programs as a way to make a living. THAT is my bitch. That is what I want to see change (along with stopping corporate welfare and foreign aid and employing massive military spending cuts).

I do take some but I give some also. I am not sure of the total numbers but I think I am giving more than I take.

I get medical coverage through my employer, I also make less in salary than some with similer jobs. I earn my coverage 100%

I would rather handle my own money because I agree with Justin, I think I can do better with it.

I have, many times, rejected discounts and freebees that were offered because I did not think it was right to accecpt them. I try hard to stand on my own two feet and hope my children follow my lead as adults.
You have a right to protect yourself and a duty to protect your family.
