Generator :-(

Hubby outside fighting with the generator to make sure it works before we lose power. It was purchased new before Irene. And he can't get it to work! Sigh.

If you left gas sit in the bowl then it's probably gummed up. You'd have to pull the bowl off the carb and clean the carb.

He emptied it after Irene...

So far he thinks he flooded the carburator (sp) so he pulled off the filter and is letting it sit. Somebody else suggested to make sure the spark plug is dry. I dunno. At least we still have power for now....

He emptied the bowl of the carb or the gas tank? If he turned off the fuel and then let it run until it shut off, that would have emptied the bowl and the fuel line. If he just turned it off and emptied the tank there would still have been fuel in the bowl of the carb. That'll cause it to clog up the jets.

It's because of those issues with gas that I converted mine to LP. I can get mine started with no trouble not that I did that. Might be something to look into for the future.

No offense, but it's time for an old soldiers lecture:

One must marvel at those who buy a piece of equipment and never bother to learn it's intricacies before it's actually needed for real. Any one with a generator should have tested it days ago...we've had a weeks advance notice this storm was coming.

Pull the plug, clean it. drop a few drops of gas in the cylinder, and try again. And make sure he has the fuel supply turned on. If he still can't get it started he'll have to drain the tank and fuel lines/carb and put fresh fuel in it. Also...RTFM.

DON'T STORE YOUR GENERATOR WITH GAS IN THE TANK OR FUEL SYSTEM.

ANY PIECE OF EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE TESTED QUARTERLY.

Open the window and yell "Have you tried hitting it!"

Streaker69 covered it short of a carb rebuild. Pull the bowl, clean the jets and I bet it will start.
