That is how utterly ridiculous it is when people say they have to protect the planet. Our actions should protect our SPECIES, the planet is not going anywhere.

Exactly.....everything Lefty does....EVERYTHING.....is about putting them in charge to control YOU....
EVERYTHING.

and everything has some kumbaya, touchy feely, feel good, BS intention, attached to it to make you feel guilty if you don't comply.

ahhhh do it for the chillren, while they heap $TRILLIONS in debt on their ass

Do you guys know their is a huge area in the pacific that is reported to be the size of Texas that has millions of rubber Duckies and trash from a Chinese boat incident? I think it is common sense to take care of the place you live. Warming or cooling, man made or natural I dont know but I do believe in leaving room for nature. When I go into the woods I do my best to leave has little of a "foot print" has possible no trash left behind just the same respect I would give to going into your home.

Protecting it from what?

Human emissions are PART OF NATURE, just as the methane gas released from Cow dung is PART OF NATURE.

There is NOTHING human beings can do to either hurt or help the planet Earth. We are but parasites living on it's surface. It will be here long, long after we are gone
Lets see if I can name a few negative impacts humans have made to this Planet. Over fishing the oceans, making entire species extinct, destroying natural habitats for some wildlife species not mention ALL the wells in my area are now contaminated and are no longer safe to drink from, just to name a few.

Every home ever built destroyed some wildlife's habitat...survival of the fittest....that's nature.
And I like Lobster. and eating in general.
The wells?....now that is an issue.

And now you are talking about things that simple regulations/game laws could control, those things are not contributing to any global cooling/warming, yet just as you did, the left lumps those things into a big ball of man made climate change.
It's based on feelings, not fact in most cases.

Again, I'm with you on not intentionally trashing the place we live, but the left is so far out that it's not about that anymore, it's about control.
I recycle my oil, I don't dump trash over the bank along the road, etc...

Look at Obama shutting down the coal fired power plants. Jobs lost, bills rise and for what? because the left wants to push it's unproven green projects that the taxpayer has to subsidize instead of allowing the plants to install scrubbers, etc...
They want to control where our power comes from.

As I said before I agree. Val stated that the human race CAN NOT effect the planet. That is my point. Im not agreeing with shutting down coal plants or being told what to do. Im not saying to stop commercial fishing Im just proving my point that the most intelligent species on the planet are humans and we do, barring nature, can have a huge impact on the planet has a whole. Please do not ever put me and a liberal or leftist or progressive in the same sentence. I despise all that they stand for.

All of this will go away in mere centuries or millenia when people finally disappear. And none of poses any threat to the planet itself whatsoever. It's all just matter in various forms. The Earth is going to be here until the Sun becomes a Red Giant and swallows the planet whole, in several billion years. There is nothing humanity can do to hurt the planet in any way whatsoever.

So, i say, so what?

Again: The human race cannot affect the planet on any meaningful timescale, in any meaningful way. We have been here for about .0000001% of it's history. And it will be here loooooong after we are gone too.

Besides, waste products are useful. Just look at how we use all the dead dinosaur oil to power our whole society. What if they had been intelligent and environmentally conscious, and instead used cremation to dispose of dead bodies?

We'd be pretty well screwed, wouldn't we?

Now Val your getting way off the point. your talking about us in context of the entire universe. You are more than likely absolutely correct, the planet will be here after we are long gone. But the fact remains we has a race of humans now not only can and do effect the environment in detrimental ways but also posses the knowledge and power to destroy the entire planet, think full out global nuclear war. Humans have power to destroy the planet at will.

No, we have the ability to kill most of the life on the planet with a full out nuclear war. The planet will still be here moving through space, we just won't be here to see it.

Of course my fear of world destruction would be a comet passing between the earth and the moon, thus splitting the moon in half and giving rise to Thundarr the Barbarian.

These are two different issues.

Global warming, may not even exist. Certainly, there is not enough evidence to make a claim either way. And even if the Earth IS warming by a few tenths of a degree, it is certainly not man made. Yet the left is using that to control commerce. They have lost that argument. The Earth warms and cools by itself more than anything we can do while living normal lives.

So what they fall back on is "well, man is ruining the environment with poisons". That is provable to some extent. But that is NOT the same as carbon dioxide causing an increase in the global temperature. It is hubris to contend that man has the ability to affect global temperature short of inducing a nuclear winter. And even then, the effects would be buffered out over a matter of a few decades.

ALL LIFE AFFECTS THE ENVIRONMENT. Fish defecate into pristine oceans, All living things produce carbon dioxide. Deer take the bark off of trees. Insects, destroy plants. As the dominant life form, we do affect our environment. But so what? Life goes against entropy. But the planet and the universe win over the long term.

The number one enemy of the planet is the universe. Asteroid strikes, gamma ray bursts, supernova, nuclear decay top the list. But man is not even on the list.

I'll stick with GC on this issue.

That said, I DO recycle, I DO turn off my lights, and I DO NOT litter. Do I think we should be good stewards of our home?

Of course.

Do I think we should be taxed and regulated to death because of being human?

Of course not.
