Good example

Here is a recent good example of why good guys (and girls) need guns even if "bad guns" are "off the streets".

Quote:Dinah Burns is licensed to carry a concealed gun, but she'd only recently started taking her weapon while walking her dog.

Based on what happened, it looks like she'll make a point of carrying from now on.

"I think if they'd gotten any closer, I probably would have fired,” said Burns.

It was Monday when Burns was on a footpath near Sanderson Elementary School.

"Two gentlemen came out of the woods, one holding a baseball bat, and said 'You're coming with us'."

The men weren't deterred by Dinah's dog Gracie.

"I said, 'Well, what do you want?,' and as I was saying that I reached in to my pocket and slipped my gun out, slipped the safety off as I pulled it out. As I was doing that the other gentleman came toward me and raised the baseball bat. And, I pointed the gun at them and said, 'I have this and I'm not afraid to use it.'"

The men took off and so far have eluded police. Dinah posted about the incident on Facebook to alert friends and neighbors, to criticism by some.

"Most of the males' opinion was, 'Why didn't you shoot them?'"

I'm bad about carrying everywhere I go but I really need to get back to it.

How do you carry? Mrs_Gixxer used to carry in her purse but it wasn't ideal. She got a brand new AlienGear holster for her birthday this month. Now she carries every day and absolutely loves it.

I realize carrying a pistol can be more difficult for a woman. For her, at least, her pants are tighter fitting than mine and her pockets are smaller. The IWB AlienGear holster is a great alternative for her IMO.

Right now I handbag carry with my LC9, but I usually just go out for quick errands, or go to work.....neither of which involves handbag carry.

Recently sold my LCP setup to buy a P238 pearl grip engraved for pocket or holster carry....but then things came up and I had to use the money for more important things. Shrug

A holstered LC9 is too much for me to carry at work and too obvious holstered. So I need to save up for a new pocket gun.

My high school sweetheart and I are still friends. Shes a single mom in a not great area. Ive tried encouraging her to get her LCTF and a concealable pistol. I also talked about how I simply dont go anywhere I cant lawfully carry. She decided to go to NYC this week and got mugged in broad daylight. Wallet, cell, passport, and jewelry. She is injured and now afraid to go outside. Sometimes you just have to learn the lesson the hard way.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry! That's scary! It's hard to just never go to DC or NYC.....but you gotta stay with friends or family and try not to be alone.

Sorry to hear that, prayers for her recovery. Personally, I avoid cities as much as possible, even quit going to Baltimore and Philadelphia, except for the airports. I hate even driving into Lancaster, because I have to enter via Prince Street. I read the newspaper and check the map, the shootings and such happen just a block or two off the tourist trail... The last time I went through, I wound up unholstering my carry piece and moving it up beside me. Too many nefarious looking characters stepping off the curb in close proximity of my door handle. Always comes across to me as a great place for a car jacking or mugging. I can do it, but I like to relax, not go into hyper security mode.
