Government shoving beliefs down throats

Quote:On Tuesday, a Lexington Human Rights Commission hearing examiner issued a recommended ruling that the owner of a T-shirt company violated a local ordinance against sexual-orientation discrimination. You can read the ruling by clicking here.

Take just a moment and let that sink in – a Christian business owner is being ordered to attend diversity training – because of his religious beliefs. That’s a pretty frightening concept and a mighty dangerous precedent.

“It was a landmark decision,” Sexton said. “This is a very important ruling for us.”

The examiner concluded that Blaine Adamson of Hands On Originals broke the law in 2012 by declining to print shirts promoting the Lexington Pride Festival. The Gay and Lesbian Services Organization subsequently filed a complaint.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a law firm that specializes in religious liberty cases, represented Adamson, a devout Christian.

“No one should be forced by the government or by another citizen to endorse or promote ideas with which they disagree,” said ADF attorney Jim Campbell. “Blaine declined to the request to print the shirts not because of any characteristic of the people who asked for them, but because of the message that the shirts would communicate.”

ADF also pointed out that Hands On Originals has a history of doing business with the LGBT community as well has hiring LGBT workers.

But Sexton told me the law is the law. And in Lexington it’s against the law to discriminate against the LGBT community – regardless of religious beliefs.

I really wonder if we asked a liberal t-shirt company to print shirts with "assault rifles" on them or the Gadsen flag, if they would be forced to do so by the government?

Or if a Muslim t-shirt company would have to print a shirt with bikini clad women?

Do you suppose a black owned company would have to make white hoodie shirts?

So here is a company who does not discriminate against the people...but they do not want to put out shirts with a message against their beliefs. I'm a little shocked that someone would be forced to do that. What if you didn't believe in printing profanity? I mean...I bet they have turned down other orders in the past....

It's going to be pushed too far and someone is going to snap. I hope that when they do they take out as many fags as possible.

I was going to post a funny picture about smoking and how it's gross but then I got into a deep dark part of Google that I'll never be able to erase from my search history or my memory...ConfusedConfusedConfused

Took a screen shot of the most disturbing part of this....the company had a policy on their website reserving the right to decline any order.

Never mind, ios on ipad not cooperating. Read judgement above.....evidently company policy is moot.

He was targeted because of his stated policy or he was set up by a sales rep who knew he would probably refuse the order. Shrug
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

I agree.

So much for freedom, unless you're a protected group.

I am really disgusted by groups that try to force their ideology on others... all this division of culture and oppression of individual sovereignty has got to stop. Punishing people for how they choose to live their lives, so long as as it doesn't harm anyone else is just an un American attitude.

Oh, but this applies to both sides of the argument, doesnt it.

Since when has any other government other than this one forced a private business to put out a PRODUCT that is against their system of belief?

That's like forcing a Muslim to print shirts with pork chops on them. Unless it's a government business, they should be able to turn down any business they please.

Government training to reprogram your system of belief? Yeah, that's definitely what our founding fathers had in mind.... Dodgy

And most people won't even care...until they pull your kids in to brainwash them against guns...and they tell your kids that "Daddy is bad because he owns guns". Maybe they'll force your small business to attend anti-gun training classes. And then you'll all be protesting and angry...but by then it will be too late, because you didn't stick up for the freedoms of others that maybe you did not agree with at the time.

I know, but you said "both sides of the argument" but there is only ONE side that is advocating the government forcing small businesses to conform to a single belief system and forcing them to adjust their business practices to making products they would otherwise not make.
