I missread the title as George Lucas, and the first thought that came to my mind was how he ruined star wars by redoing everything. And then redoing the redo. . . a few times.

I will admit though, I am all for allowing teachers to carry. I don't think it should be mandatory of course. But giving them the option would be nice.

Lets face it, had only one of the teachers at newtown been armed. For that matter, even columbine. Things may have ended up differently.

I talked to my brother in laws about this. I have two brother in laws, and it will be very soon eight nieces and nephews. Number 8 should be here very, very soon. I asked them if the schools the kids went to had taken any steps to help prevent, or lessen what could be a potential tragedy.

Both of them had pretty much the same story. The schools sent out information, letting parents know their schools were safe. And that was it.

When I was in school, we had fire drills. We had tornado drills. We ended up having a bomb threat while I was in high school. But we all acted accordingly. And why was that? Because we had practiced it. Sure, we looked at it as a few minutes away from classwork. But we knew where to go, who to listen to, and what to look out for.

Even if teachers don't arm themselves, steps need to be taken to prevent things like this. Drills, plans, just about anything at this point in time. Those poor people, especially the kids. They had their lives ripped from them. And to not take preventative measure, especially with violence increasing in the younger generations. I think anyone that doesn't at least call for some measure to be taken with safety into consideration, is a fool.

Give the teachers the option. If they are comfortable carrying it, and won't leave it laying where a kid will get ahold of it, let them carry it. Hell make it mandatory that any teacher wanting to carry has to spend a certain amount of range time, but have the school cover the cost of the ammo.

Evil people will always be out there, and they will always be evil. If I had children, and I was trusting them in the care of someone else for seven hours a day, five days a week. I would personally feel comforted knowing that they would be able to defend my children.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin

Teachers with LTCF's should definitely be allowed to carry.

^ I second that. I would also like to add I think college students with LTCFs should be allowed to carry at state universities. I think they should be allowed to carry at private universities too, but I also don't like the government infringing on the rights of people's/organization's/companies' private property.

I am a teacher. I have an LTCF. I would carry if they let me. Hell we just had a student in my school, that was assigned to MY class, found with a handgun. And if anyone questions how I would handle an emergency situation, I would remind them I am also a volunteer firefighter and as far as I know one of probably a few people in that school with NIMS training(maybe the nurses), and have been in emergency situations where being calm and under control, is key.
