WASHINGTON — Prominent gun-rights advocates in Congress are now calling for a national discussion about restrictions to curb gun violence, signaling that the horrific shooting at a Connecticut elementary school could be a tipping point in a debate that has been dormant for years.
"Everything should be on the table," West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin declared Monday. He is a conservative Democrat, avid hunter and lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa proposed a debate not just about guns but also about mental issues.
White House officials said President Barack Obama would make preventing gun violence a second-term policy priority. But it was unclear what Obama would pursue or how, and aides said stricter gun laws would be only part of any effort. I have to agree.. This shooting is much different then ones in the past and many people are responding! My hope is that after Christmas cooler heads will prevail and it doesn't result in a complete AWB. My gut tells me that this won't be the case however.

Part of the problem is that the anti's are MUCH more vocal at the moment than we gun owner are...it doesn't help that the major networks are all having anti-gun speakers on their shows saying we need to have more controls, who needs an AR15, blah, blah, blah...
We really need to start speaking up and to be heard...

In response to the bold, even if they WERE more vocal the media outlets will ignore them. It doesn't match the agenda they themselves are pushing.

I fully realize that...However, there are other ways of being vocal...
Social media for one...
Writing well thought out letters to newspapers, elected officials telling them you will not support them any longer if the come out in favor of GC legislations, etc..
If someone doesn't feel they can be eloquent enough to write a letter, there are plenty of examples on the net.
I'm hoping someone organizes a pro-gun rally in DC so that gun owners can come out in force..
We simply cannot afford to just do nothing except go out and panic buy more guns, mags and ammo...

Why? Some of his other major priorities include reducing the debt, getting Americans back to work, improving the economy, having the US respected around the world, ending racism......... based on his track record I'm thinking we may be ok.

I think gun control will be his Obamacare dream for his second term.
The profligate spending of his first term shows his contempt for the budget and the economy.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

Obama goes after that which is popular, not what is necessary. Taxing the rich, and making them pay 'their fair share', along with extending unemployment benefits, is far more popular than creating jobs.

OhBlowMe is a Socialist, and they are lazy good for nothing beings. He will go for the low hanging fruit: AWB. Remember, they got Fast N Furious up and running early in his administration. Only 300+ Mexicans and 2 U.S. border agents got killed in his quest for gun control, so they needed something with more "flash". This nut job gave it to them
