Wow. Firstly, wifey deserves to walk the hell home. Secondly, this guy needs to sue the shit out of these idiots. I certainly hope he doesn't give up his own rights to comply with the Maryland Gestapo. That officer needs to get Farva'd for the rest of his career.

Wow. I almost wanted to cry reading this. How did they know he had a gun at all? Do they scan PA plates in hopes they catch you coming through? Evidently they do.

Don't be too hard on the wife....she was probably just scared and babbling. She learned her lesson fast and hard though and won't do that again.

Yup, when reading this one of my first thoughts was I could easily see my wife saying something like that in a panic.

Florida and Pennsylvania are pretty popular states the anti's like to pick on for having the most liberal gun laws. Florida is infamous for it's popularity for non-resident permits for such a long time. PA because of the very high rate of gun ownership per capita compared to everywhere else in the Northeast (that's discounting that Vermont/New Hampshire are just as more liberal if not more so than we are... just nobody cares about those tiny states).

No doubt Officer McDickless did an interstate lookup to try to check his Florida license. I'm presuming either he saw the CCW card or he asked for this record when he was pulling his Florida license.

Still, these aren't "real" cops... these are like DRPA cops / college campus police. They're special purpose police that are to protect assets and people transiting through owned assets who keep them under constant watch unlike a city kitty who might only patrol the asset a few times a day.

Apparently, and this is only reading one side of the story, the individual cop here has a bug up their ass about anyone, everyone, carrying a legal firearm. No different than several hundred cops here in Philly who are against any and all civillian carry.

Had the wife not said anything this would have made the cop's justification for nearly going down to stripping the car down to its parts very very flimsy and would give rise to a nice big fat mortgage-paying tort claim. But she gave enough reason to assume he might be carrying a firearm on him outside the bounds of Maryland's laws so that was reason enough to pull this stunt.

Bad PR move, but that's what Maryland voters want is for a police force who waggles their tiny dicks for shit like this.

Now that Maryland is actively targeting people for absolutely no valid reason whatsoever, I'm going to have to ask my parents to not drive up here to visit--maybe quit their trip in Virginia and I'll drive down to visit them down there, or take the risk of driving through the DelMarVa penninsula where they're less likely to get tangled up in this shit--that's even though they take the gun completely apart and separate the ammo before they enter Maryland so that way the Interstate transit rules are crystal clear. My parents have TX plates and obviously everyone who has TX plates is a prepper with a $200K arsenal with IEDs installed in the front yard.

The same thread on the Maryland Shooters board:

Apparently bridge and tunnel cops have no way of pulling out of state carry license info on their screens--they guessed by looking at the vehicle or learned it from the occupants.

Or as one poster over there said:

I moved to PA from MD in 2005 and have had PA plates on my car since the first week of 2006. I have had a job with a reporting location in Baltimore ever since, and on the frequent occasions I have not had a company vehicle I have driven my own car.

My "territory" is all of southern Maryland and all of Washington DC. As of this month I've been doing this for 8 years. In all that time I was pulled over once, because it "looked like I was speeding" to him. It was about 3am and I'm sure he thought he had a drunk driver, even though I was wide awake, driving safe and sane, and within the speed limit.

I got a verbal "warning". How I ever survived I'll never know. Rolleyes

Do what you want, but your folks are fine transporting through MD in accordance with FOPA. I mean, it's not Philly. Tongue

This is what I was hoping for but that conspiracy theorist/tinfoil hat wearer in me had a brief flash of "what if".

Seriously though, what if?....

I'm betting the officer had a dash can running. I'm also betting that recording would tell a different tale than the article suggests, and would answer a few questions.

The wife did nothing wrong. You don't blame the victim. Nothing would have happened without douchebag renta cop.
