He should not have answered any of the officer's questions before he was told to exit his vehicle. Just ignore the questions and remain silent. I don't think he uttered once the all-important question to get out of there ASAP, "Am I free to go?" He did ask "Am I being detained?" but he didn't subsequently ask what for when they wouldn't answer his question.

Repeatedly asking that and getting the officer's name and badge number may have made the difference. Then again, that LEO seemed like a stubborn jerk who even said at the end of the video according to the citizen he didn't care about his constitutional rights at a checkpoint. It may not have mattered. Sad
