I had a long and rather angering FB chat with an Obama supporter about healthcare and premiums recently and it was one of my biggest eye openers yet on why people support him (clue: take from me and give to you).

Quote:Her: You should be happy, he has made it illegal to charge a higher premium for your wife than you and your two boys.

Me: So mine and my boys premiums will go up to match her current, yeah real happy.

Her: You don't know that. Besides, premiums go up every year anyway so whats the big deal?

Me: Just because I take it up the ass every year doesn't mean I'm excited to hop in line for my annual pounding. An improvement in my eyes would be NOT TAKING IT UP THE ASS.

Her: The improvement is that people like me who cannot currently afford health insurance will be able to get it when we would otherwise be denied.

Me: At the greater expense of people like me, who are self employed and pay 100% of the premium out of pocket, which by the way I can barely afford. My increased premium will cover the additional cost incurred by the insurance companies of insuring people they normally would not.

Her: Contracting for my company you made in 6 months more than what I make in a year. It is fair that you should pay more to help the less fortunate.

Me: Perhaps I should explain the mathematics of 100% of health care premiums and FICA. I'd say I'm already pitching in my fair share.

Her: It's not going to hurt you to pay a little more.

Me: The problem is that premiums are too damn high. You are not listening to me, I cannot afford to pay more. It doesn't matter what I make compared to whoever, I am telling you that I cannot afford to pay more. The solution is not to make them higher. The higher you make them, the more people can't afford it. How is that fixing the problem?

Her: Premiums will never go down. They only go up, you can't change that.

I broke off the conversation, I'm sure she feels like she won.

Unfortunately I am starting to see a growing trend of people showing just how stuck on stupid they are.

This isn't news. My premium increased by 28.5% immediately after Obamacare passed, forcing my employer to switch to lesser coverage. Now I pay the same amount, but my insurance doesn't cover shit and I have a $13,000 per year deductible. It used to cover everything with just a ten dollar co pay. These liberals need to get their hands out of my damn pocket!

Some businesses are now faced with a choice. Pay the runaway increasing, unaffordable premiums until its costs put you in the red or drop employee health coverage.

Some individuals who pay their premiums out of pocket are now faced with a choice. Pay the runaway increasing premiums until it bankrupts you or go without health insurance and roll the dice for the rest of your life. You choose gradual eventual bankruptcy or astronomical debt if you're ever hospitalized down the road without health insurance.
