Help a friend with questions moving to NJ
#1
First let me start by saying I am trying to convince him NOT to move to NJ for any reason. But he is getting married and I guess his wife to be works close to NYC and they want to move in the middle of eastern PA and there putting them in NJ.

With that said... here is his scenerio and what he thought about. They are going to rent, with the place in her name. He has an LTCF here in PA and has 2 handguns. He thinks he can keep all his records at his current address(his parents) and at least still be able to carry here in PA, but also at least have a handgun for home protection in NJ. He also might try to keep his car insurance and other things here.. tho I tried to figure out if he's gonna be married, and living there, he'd need to change that stuff over. Not really concerned about the other things although they may turn out to be fraud if something happens.... but his handguns are why I'm asking... Will he be able to have it at his NJ residence and carry it(appropriately separated in his vehicle) back into PA and then carry as normal? I would think that could be considered fraud since he no longer lives at that address and if he tries to play that off that he just stays at this place in NJ now and then that its gonna bite him in the rear.

Please give me something good to help explain a possible folly or explain to me how it could work if possible.

Again.. I am trying to convince him to stay out of NJ...LOL

Your friend needs to ditch the broad, get a dog, and stay in PA. Big Grin

In all seriousness, my girlfriend lives in NJ and I cannot stress enough HE SHOULD NOT MOVE THERE!!!!!!! My girlfriend is a gun owning NJ resident. As a recent college graduate, she plans on moving out of that state when she moves out of her parents' house. She hates their gun laws and politicians with every ounce of blood in her body. Please tell your friend to reconsider. Keep in mind NJ is going to be passing even more gun laws similar to NY's in the VERY near future. NJ residents all ready can only buy one gun a month and they have to apply for handgun permit for EVERY handgun they buy. Also the price of firearms in NJ is ridiculous. In NJ if you shoot an unarmed person who broke into your house, you will be charged! You cannot even carry pepper spray and pocket knives in NJ. The whole state is one big victim zone.

NJ law is difficult, so with that preface;

I'm not going to touch the address issue because i don't think it's plausible without a home in his name, where he pays the bills.

He can take his guns to NJ so long as they are legal in NJ, no high cap mags, ar's etc.

He must be a NJ res. to legally possess a handgun in NJ, which blows the Pa res thing away. He can possess a long gun in NJ, res. or non res., so long as it's his home or vacation home and has a NJ firearms ID card.

He cannot, IMO, have a handgun in NJ, even as a res. and take it to Pa for the sole purpose of carrying it. There is no exception in NJ law for transporting a handgun in NJ unless for target practice, or to and from a FFL.

He can leave his handgun in Pa and pick it up at his parents house, and use his existing ltcf until it expires. After that he's screwed.
He can no longer carry on a non res FL. He could get a non res AZ, or similar, but I suspect the AG will go after all non res permits issued by states to non residents of the issuing state.

Is your friend aware of all the new anti gun laws pending in NJ?

Sorry but your friend is screwed, which he should have realized before he married someone from NJ/NY. No piece of ass is worth that much.

I can't speak to the knife thing, although I suspect that's not entirely true, but you can carry pepper spray. Granted it has to be a small limited amount, such as a key chain size, 1/2 oz or 1oz limit, or some such bs.
