Whey or Hemp protein powder is good if you want to add it to a healthy shake or something. Usually vegans go with Hemp. Whole food is better, but sometimes shakes are more convenient as a snack between meals.

If you stick with whole healthy foods, most supplements become completely useless.

Eat a lot. If the scale doesn't move, eat more.

Find a basic workout routine that interests you. It doesn't have to be anything crazy if you've been inactive for a while. If you don't exercise, all the excess weight will go to your thighs and butt. Big Grin

All I have to work with as far as exercise are some dumbells and a perfect pushup and these isometric rubber band things which have probably been sitting out for so long that they'll snap when I try to use em. I have to get pretty creative. I attempted going to a local playground to use that for exercises but I didn't stick with it, felt weird. Guess I'll have to get over it or join a gym.

If you don't want to join a gym, there are a ton of effective bodyweight programs out there to get in great shape. The only equipment I'd highly recommend for bodyweight, other than yourself, is a pullup bar of some sort.

Once you get proficient with basic bodyweight exercises, move on to more difficult variations.

If you want to bench, deadlift, squat X amount of weight, then you obviously need a gym. But, if your goal is to put on some extra weight and get in shape, you don't need a gym. Bodybuilders would probably disagree with me, but if you want functional strength, bodyweight exercise is king.

This with beer and pasta will do the trick. I used to weigh 130lbs at 6' right out of high school lol. I'm around 180lbs now.

Similar results here. 6'1'' and 190+.

If I had to do it again I would probably try the beer and pasta part first without marriage. Could be cheaper.

Topsy, it is very possible that the long-term stress has the adrenals working overtime. This can speed one's metabolism causing weight loss and effect appetite and emotions.

I concur with streaker. A wide variety of quality food will do wonders. I would focus on vegetables like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, dandelions, mustard greens, collard greens, chard, and beets. They are high in fatty acids which are critical to adrenal health. (their oils provide a slower burning fuel to stabilize the effects of a fast metabolism)

I would also include a medium portion of fish, chicken/turkey (dark meat) lamb, bison, or any range/wild game each day. Moderate exercise will help increase muscle.

Also, check the web for symptoms of low-T. If you them, take a DHEA supplement. The dose for males is 25 mg x 1 daily. DHEA is converted to testosterone. This will help build muscle, reduce that feeling that your muscles are fading away, clear the mind, and reduce anxiety. Give DHEA about 6 -8 weeks to start feeling the positive effects. If you start getting constipated, back off. It may be getting too high. Your doctor can do a simple blood test for testosterone levels.
