Members of both major political parties are calling for laws to make it tougher for the mentally ill to buy guns after the Friday rampage in California that left six people and the gunman dead — four of them from gunshot wounds.

Republican Rep. Peter King of New York told The Washington Post that stronger background checks are needed and that he is pursing legislation to get more help for the mentally ill.

Friday's killings near the University of California at Santa Barbara campus were carried out by 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, who had a history of mental issues. Still, he was able to buy his guns legally since he had no criminal history and had never been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility.

So .... knowing half his victims were stabbed to death, and two non-deadly casualties we from him running people over where is the call for sticker knife and driver license background checks?

The media will neglect the the stabbing and vehicle deaths and focus on he had 400+ rounds of ammo.

WE know that but the main stream media watchers (the uninformed) people will lap up what the machine churns out and unfortunately there are a lot of people like that.

Seriously... what defines a rampage... I remember seeing 2 people killed as a "rampage" once. Worse happens on the streets of Chicago daily.

Very true. I am curious as to how this nut job managed to stab three people to death in the same house. Stabbing someone is up close and personal, which to me says far more about how sick this guy was.

I'm still convinced the only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
