This is a reminder to all of us. Keep your guns close.

Something that I've been thinking about more and more. I posted this yesterday in the Scanner thread:

They don't have a lot of data in it yet, but it does show where the crimes are happening, and a few of those burglaries have been near me. Mentally, I've been going through a plan of action if someone were to try to get in while I'm here.

Update
HILLTOWN, Pa. -

Police say a man was fatally shot and a woman and boy were tied up during a suburban home invasion Friday morning in Bucks County.

According to police, the incident happened just before 10:30 a.m. Friday at a large home in Hilltown Township.

Police believe the suspects took bank books along with some weapons, and robbery may have been the motive.

The robbers, described by police as an Asian male and a Hispanic male, fled in a black 2006 Lincoln pickup truck with a license plate of ZCT-9659.

Tied up in the basement were a woman and a 12-year-old boy.

Anyone who might see the vehicle is urged to dial 9-1-1, police said.

That's a handy map. But, there's always a first target before a crime wave gets attention.

They just wrapped up a huge burglary ring in my area in Lower Bucks.... luckily they were not in the business of hurting people, just robbing empty homes. (Posing as workmen in case someone answered the door....breaking in, if nobody answered.)

I really need to get in the habit of carrying around the house. I'm all about "comfort" though and have a hard time making myself carry when I'm just lounging around the house.

This happend a few minutes by my house. That house is located in a high income development. I'm hoping that the other home owners in that development do something different as they could become the next targets if they don't catch these guys.

Many people I know that have guns keep all the guns locked up at all times. That does no good if you can't get to them in time.

I am really so happy we have a dog now. Its probably one of the best things that came out of an otherwise bad situation (losing my cake business). It makes me feel SO much better that now I have a gruff sounding "alarm" that "sounds" whenever there is so much as a noise on the porch or outside the windows. (And sometimes he mistakes inside noises for a noise outside, but at least he's trying. haha. He's only 8 months old, he'll get it!) He's on the small side for an akita, only about 65 pounds just yet...but nobody else has to know that. ;-)

Number one, it will make a thief think twice about breaking in (unless he has a weapon I guess) if we are gone. Number two, it gives us a heads-up and a "stall tactic" to grab a weapon if need be.

This happened just a few minutes from where I live. Any news on this yet, or if they caught the people? I still think this guy was deliberately targeted.

Chris Palmer of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Hilltown robbery and home invasion murder victim Joseph Canazaro was $10 million in debt to casinos, banks and the government.

Bankruptcy documents from 2008 showed Canazaro owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Biloxi, MS, according to the article.

A matter was settled in bankruptcy court where Canazaro cashed $210,000 in faulty checks with two check-cashing agencies, Palmer reports.

Locally, Canazaro owed taxes to Hatfield Township and New Britain Township.
