House GOP Vows To Stop Paying Members Of Congress Unless Budget Is Passed…
#1
Quote:House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement about the need to pass a budget that reduces spending:

The President’s plan to simply borrow more money without any reform in Washington puts us all at risk.

The first step to fixing this problem is to pass a budget that reduces spending. The House has done so, and will again. The Democratic Senate has not passed a budget in almost four years, which is unfair to hardworking taxpayers who expect more from their representatives. That ends this year.

We must pay our bills and responsibly budget for our future. Next week, we will authorize a three month temporary debt limit increase to give the Senate and House time to pass a budget. Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, Members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay.

It probably won't fly.

But, the only way that it doesn't is if Reid doesn't bring the 3 month extension with "no-pay" requirement to the floor. Then it is up to us to start screaming "where is it?" and to pressure news organizations in any way we can to report on the Dem's failure to take it up.

It is a solid issue that lots of people can get behind. It's very simple, "no budget - no pay". Most Americans can comprehend it. It's under 5 words, but of course the hyphen will confuse most of the low information voters.

The big question in my mind is whether the GOP will back a campaign to "raise budget awareness". Let me restate, does the GOP have the balls to join the fight? I think, "no". So, that's where it all breaks down. They want my money and claim to fight the good fight, but the GOP dog don't hunt.

I just think this is dumb. What kind of leaders do we have when they need to set up a financial punishment for each other in order to motivate them to do their jobs? If I was a Lib/Dem Senator, I'd call their bluff and say fine don't pay me. It's not like Senators can't afford to miss a few paychecks. How about the house passes a responsible budget with real cuts, and if Obama and the Senate won't agree to responsible cuts, the house doesn't raise the debt ceiling? Weak ass passive-aggressive pussies imo. Take a principled stand and if the voters punish you for it in 2014 then so be it, at least you did the right thing.

Like they need their regular pay. They get kickbacks from all over. Hell Harry Reid got rich off of them.

Blame us. They don't lead us. They work for us. We've done a shit job keeping them in line and now we have to try and rein them back in. It may not even be possible to fix it completely at this point.

The whole budget drama comes down to principle for me anyway. I don't think it's going to matter as our fiscal problems are to big to overcome. They are going to kill the dollar eventually, regardless of how the political farce plays out. I just hate to see the looters win.

Unbelievable. The Democrats suddenly learned about the Constitution now that the Republicans threatened to withhold their pay:

It's a shame they couldn't find the 2nd Amendment while searching for the 27th.
