There are two different kinds. Well assuming we're talking about metal ones. There's the kind where you have to mill the fire control group, and the kind where you have to drill and tap the hole for the buffer tube. I recommend the first kind, where you mill the fire control group.

I haven't actually completed an 80% lower yet, but I do own one and I have some experience machining so I know what's involved. At a minimum you want a drill press, but it can technically be done with just about anything, like even a dremel tool. I would NOT do it with anything less than a drill press though.

Other than a drill press, you'll need the appropriate end mill, and drill bits. It's not that complicated and there is a lot of information out there if you google "completing an 80% lower."

The jigs are helpful but if you're crafty enough you can do it without one.

No, I know the movie line by line. I missed something else. Fill me in please. Is that a bad question to ask here? If so please delete it.

Ok, the joke then. Your question "how hard is it to finish an 80% lower?" reminded me (for some reason) of Miracle Max's wife asking "do you think it will work?" and his reply, "It will take a miracle."

That's it, nothing more. Shrug
