How Prepared Are You?
#1

Here's a few things to consider:

1.  Do I have enough water for myself and my family for at least 3 weeks?
2.  Do I have an alternate source for water in case I need more?
3.  Do I have enough food for myself and my family for at least 3 weeks?
4.  Is my food properly stored to maintain freshness and nutritional quality?
5.  Do I have an alternate cooking method?
6.  Do I have an alternate heating method?
7.  Do I have an alternate electricity source?
8.  Are my personal documents safe and readily available if needed?
9.  Do I have a method to get information if there is no electricity?
10.  If I have to leave my home, how long would it take to gather everything I need for an extended period of time?
11.  Do I have an alternate sanitation plan if there is no running water?
12.  Do I have a supply of my prescription medication to last at least 3 weeks?
13.  Do I have basic first aid supplies?
14.  Do I have flashlights and charged batteries?
15.  Have I planned a route away from your home that avoids major roads and choke points?
16.  Do I have extra fuel stored just in case I cannot get to the gas station?
17.  Have I formed a coalition of like minded people in my immediate area?
18.  Do I have at least 1000 rounds of ammunition for each Caliber of firearm I own?

Yes to everything except 15, which is impossible in my location, and 18....i can think of no scenario on Earth where i would need 1000rds of 12 gauge ammo, or .380 ammo. I think 100rds of each caliber is a lot more reasonable for secondary use weapons.

My main fightin' caliber is 5.7mm, I have 2 full ammo cans of that (2400rds), plus what's in my 17 magazines (450+rds). In .22 i have thousands of rounds of all different types from hyper velocity to CB short subsonics.

I'm not going to go into any details. That being said, I could close and lock my doors, and refuse to leave for a month and a half, and not have anything to worry about.

I have litterally even kept a list of items I use day to day, and added around that.

What my next items to build up are hand tools, and working supplies.

Connal brings up an important point that I think everyone needs to remember.  I wrote those out for  everyone to think about, not to actually list all your preparations.  I'm a believer in maintaining a certain level of Op-Sec.  So, only reveal information that you feel comfortable revealing.  But feel free to discuss other questions that I may have left out.

...and whatever you do, don't be like this idiot.

I'm solid on all of those except 17..., I'm sort of a "loner" when it comes to prepping. I've not met anyone around here that I feel I can trust enough to bring into the circle of trust. I hope to change that, because having a few like minded people would make things much easier.

Just out of curiosity, where does 3 weeks come from?  I have enough firepower to last a long time.  But I really have no idea how much food and water to keep on hand.

God I think I can only speak for 14 and 15; I'm always getting more survival information and improvisation methods, but I don't have the money to get the equipment or extra supplies that I would like to have. I think something like this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/CAMP-205 would be a cheap way to try and cover the water issue if there's any notice though, what do you guys think?

I have two of them, one for each tub.

Problem is, you need to foresee the problem starting and have them filled ahead of time.  Good for when you not trouble might be coming, like a hurricane.
