How to counteract the "but Romney signed an AWB" arguments....
#1
Searched the forums here and "over there" for this didn't see anything useful...

Plenty of Obama supporters are hitting me with the "but Romney signed an AWB" arguments....

All I have to offer in return is that "with Romney an AWB is a maybe, the Republican party will keep him check", while "with Obama an AWB is going to be a given"

Weak argument, but thats all I have..anything else I can use???

Use his own words. He claims the people of Mass. came together and made that decision. Whether that is true or not I don't know, but the bottom line is he claims to have acted by the will of the people. Like you said, it is either that or a guaranteed attempt at a nationwide AWB. Take your pick.

How about:

"I am not voting for either big government, freedom hating, AWB supporting, socialized healthcare signing douchebag."

Seems like the most logical arguement.

Or you can say "I am a happy sheep that will vote for any statist piece of shit that the GOP props up regardless of his record"

Take your pick.

Tell them to research the party platforms on gun control. You can also point out the importance of SCOTUS picks.

I'd say the weak argument is on their end. They are saying that you should vote for Obama because (they say) Romney is anti gun? Or alternatively, why are they not voting for Romney since he is anti gun and will be better for the economy to boot?

Romney addressed his position at the second debate.

- Worked with Democrats to achieve a compromise that both pro and anti gun groups agreed to. That's what folks are clamoring for, right? someone to be a leader and break the deadlock.

- Feels that States have rights that may or may not be appropriate for Federal laws (Re: Romneycare vs Obamacare). So a law on guns in a blue state like Mass that is full of liberals should not be imposed on other states that might be red or purple.

-Supreme court appointees will be conservatives or at least right leaning under Romney.

- AWB will never pass both houses so the President has no ability to implement such a ban unless the president oversteps his authority and issues a presidential order. Something Obama does all the time so that is a big problem with him not only for 2A but for immigration, military action and any other action he wants to take but is too lazy to persuade congress on.

-Finally. The NRA has formally endorsed Romney/Ryan. So despite your liberal friends trying to put a wedge between you and Romney, there is only one candidate who supports gun rights and it ain't Obama.

Sebastian blogged on this yesterday over at "Shall Not Be Questioned" (formerly "Snowflakes in Hell"). Worth a read. It seems things are frequently not quite how they are understood in the collective memory. http://www.pagunblog.com/2012/10/17/the-...hat-wasnt/

Try telling that to any of these people on PA2A who insist on repeating false statements.

Quote:What’s been discussed far more often is the assault weapons issue, which alternately has people or the media suggesting Romney made Massachusetts’s assault weapons ban permanent, or accusing him of being the Governor who passed Massachusetts’s Assault Weapons Ban in the first place. Both are untrue.

I've been saying these things all along, and they've fell on deaf ears.

More like how to tow the party line 101. Democrats are good at doing that too... Obama, Romney, doesn't matter gun rights are fucked either way with a candidate from the two party system abomination. Both of them will say they'll look for "progressive solutions to the gun issue". Aka get your Astroglide or KY ready because gun owners are about to get fucked in the ass by both of these clowns regardless of who wins. Any additional gun legislation is a step in the wrong direction, we shouldn't be cooperating with the gun grabbers to fuck the law abiding harder. We shouldn't be defending either of them with regards to gun policy.
