First time I ever got a DNF (Did Not Finish)... at the end of the video you'll see why.

Woah! Was that a reload or a factory round? It sounded like only a primer firing. Glad it only cost you a barrel.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Ummm.... yea. Squib and then i fired another round while the barrel was blocked. I didn't realize I had a squib. Just thought it was a bad round.

I meant what caused the squib. Under charge, no charge?

It was a handload. One somehow slipped my QC. Since I reload on a turret press I check every case for powder. Apparently I missed one.

The problem here is that I didn't recognize the "pop" and thought it was just a bad round.

And I was very lucky. No frame or slide damage, just the barrel. Unfortunately since it was a handload the warranty doesn't cover it. Since I have more competitions coming up I can't send it in to SA for a new barrel. Going to have to go aftermarket.

Springfield doesn't sell replacement barrels. I would have to send it in and they quote 3-4 weeks turn around. Could be quicker, but no guarantee. On the upside it would only cost me about $120 for a new stock barrel to be fitted.

As I have a sanctioned match at the end of October, I would be pushing it for the turn around time. But it could be possible,

So I'm torn right now:
option 1 - send it to SA and get a new stock barrel, be pushing things time wise and have no time to get rounds through it but spend $120 (approx)

option 2 - buy after market, have it in a few days and have time to put rounds through it but spend $240

See the dilemma? Any thoughts?

Oh wait...
option 3 - get the aftermarket and then after the competition season send the XDM to SA for a new barrel. Then I have a backup barrel....

So after some thought and realizing that an aftermarket barrel is going to be ciost prohibitive, I'm sending my stuff back to SA. Sucks that I have to pay for the shipping, but it'll be cheaper in the end.

The aftermarket was not guaranteed to be a drop-in and might need some fitting. Which means sending it out. So that would mean shipping plus the cost of fitting. When it's all said and done the cost would have been closer to $350.

SA only charges around $120+ shipping so I should be out only $150 or so. If it's not back in time for the Liberty Match, then I break out the Taurus 1911.

Thanks brother. I'll be OK. If I have to I'll just go with the single stack. It's been awhile and it might feel good to shoot it. Just need to change the grips and fix the front sight.
