IDPA: BUG Out @ Valley Forge
#1
Lower Providence had their inaugural BUG Out @ Valley Forge IDPA Sanctioned BUG match. It was a very long day, lots of shooting with your BUG gun (supposedly). The stages were extremely challenging and it was a good time overall. However, I don't see myself competing in a "sanctioned" BUG match again. It was fun, but took too long when you have 13 stages and 2 or 3 strings of fire in each stage. Plus, there are no real incentives to paying $100 for a BUG match other than maybe getting a trophy and something from the prize table. (I didn't get a trophy and got beer koozies and shotglasses from the prize table)

So here's the travesty that is my performance:

I'm honestly surprised anyone holds or competes in BUG matches. There are just too many things that aren't addressed about it. The rulebook seems to treat it more as an afterthought than an actual division. The fact that IDPA didn't fix the problems with BUG, and make it a real division (or 2, BUG auto, BUG revolver) is my biggest disappointment with the new rulebook.

Pocket Carry Competition Association (PCCA) does a better job of it, and that's where I'll shoot my compact.

Supposedly HQ is working on new rules for BUG after the S&W Indoor BUG match when folks were showing up with chopped down 2011's and mouse-fart loads that produced no recoil.

I used a gun I bought specifically got BUG matches. It did not perform the way I wanted it to. Most of that was me, I'm sure. I could spend the money and make some upgrades, but after this weekend I don't see competing in BUG again, unless it's a fun match after a club. I'll use my real BUG for that then.

I realized that a sanctioned BUG match just offers something a little different, but not for me. No match bumps and no points towards Nationals... not that I'm going to Nationals, just making a point.

LPRGC did come up with a VERY challenging CoF and I would imagine that some slight modifications and you could use it for a regular match.
