IDPA: Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club (12/22/12)

Despite the cold and wind, I took a ride out to the Lower Providence IDPA Match yesterday. With the exception of the last stage (total brain-fart) I had a pretty good day.

Nice shooting. Oddly enough I was just watching another vid from this same shoot a little bit ago that popped up in my recommended videos on youtube.

That looked great. I've never shot or been to a competition, but I think it's the next logical step in my shooting. Do they tell you in advance how many shots need to impact each target and the order you shoot them in?

There is always a written stage briefing which will explain what needs to be done. In this sport (IDPA) it goes as far as telling you which targets to engage and from which position (Start at Position 1 and Engage Target 1. Move to position 2 and Engage Target 2 from behind cover, Etc...).

All of the shooting sports that I've shot have been very accommodating to new shooters. People will go out of their way to help you along. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Have fun and be safe!

It is a lot of fun.

Being in Philadelphia, you have a few clubs around that shoot these matches. The video in this post was shot at Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club (Not far from KoP - Oaks Exits on Rt. 422) and is held the 4th Saturday of the month (all year).

I've never been to Double Action in Yeadon but I know the Match Director (he also does USPSA at Lower Providence). They do a couple of small stages at the Indoor Range and I hear it is a good time.

If anyone is moderately close to Ontelaunee Gun Club in New Tripoli (~20 mins from Cabela's in Hamburg), they do an Intro to IDPA Class that I've heard great things about (free). I've shot with Dave (Runs the class) and he is a great guy to get to know.
