IDPA: New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club (Jan 2013)

I had a great time shooting but my score was absolutely horrible. I need to do a complete overhaul and get this points down situation under control.

Photos can be found on the Walt in PA Facebook Page (I think I uploaded about 98)

Here is Video of Dave Bair

I had a dinner w Dave last night and we were talking about this event. Seeing him dump a mag at that one flip target thing and not land a single hit is kinda funny.

Yeah, that was funny. He ran the gun dry before the target even exposed itself.

Seeing him drop a mag and curse at the gun was also funny (a few minutes prior he was talking about the potential new rule about not being able to pick up dropped mags and how he agreed)

Good match. Good times.

You can only drop a magazine if it is completely empty. In the case above, I don't think he got the magazine seated into the gun and it fell out and hit the ground. He had to retrieve it or take a penalty for leaving ammo behind.

I watched your vid last night and was wondering why you didn't load your magazines short so you would be able to drop them?

You have to load to division capacity

I never did any of these kinds of shoots but what's the point of not loading mags to the max ? 2nd I'd have to say if wearing those vests isn't mandatory I certainly wouldn't wear them cause they seem to get in the way for some guys. had one more question reguarding ear protection is small ear plugs aloud over those big bulky ear muffs ?

They limit round counts to help level the field ... some guns may only accept 10 while others 17 so if its a limit of 10, everyone is good.

For IDPA, the idea is that you are drawing from concealment. The vest isnt necessary, but its the "quickest" option for most and is the lightest in weight when it comes to the warmer months. Not all stages require it, but most do.

Any ear-pro is fine.

part of the 10-round limit goes back to the 1994 AWB. IDPA was founded in 1996 and therefore all mags had a 10 round limit, for new guns anyway. So they have kept it at 10 rounds for SSP and ESP. CDP is 8 rounds and the revolvers are kept to 6 rounds.

IDPA focuses on defensive shooting from concealment. More real life scenarios. USPSA is more of a game... higher round counts, no concealment, etc.
