Quote:'If Congress doesn’t act, the president will,' says top WH adviser, signaling Obama may bypass Congress

White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Sunday that President Obama will offer “practical” proposals to move the country forward this year and suggested the president will take executive action to advance his agenda when Congress doesn’t cooperate.

“If Congress doesn’t act, the president will,” Pfeiffer told “Fox News Sunday.”

Pfeiffer’s comments mark the second time this weekend that he has attempted to prepare Americans for what Obama will say in his State of the Union address Tuesday before Congress.

In a letter Saturday to Obama supporters, Pfeiffer called 2014 a “year of action” and said the president will lay out a set of “real, concrete, practical proposals” to grow the economy and strengthen the middle class.

“President Obama has a pen and he has a phone, and he will use them to take executive action and enlist every American … in the project to restore opportunity for all,” he also wrote in the letter.

What puzzles me is not that he will do this, he has no choice since the People have rejected him and blocked his agenda by electing a Republican House. But why are they advertising it so brazenly when they know it will generate negative spin and possibly cost them the Senate? I just saw an article today about current abuse of executive power and how Obama opposed presidential overreach as little as 5 years ago. It's not a good tactic to pander to a base that is no more than 25% of the population.

if and when a third party can garner enough strength to be viable, i would change the way i vote. so far its been very disappointing on all sides.

The only reason a third party cannot and will not ever garner enough support is because the system is rigged. Everyone is spoon fed the belief that it's either red or blue. A third party will never be recognized as a legitimate contender and will never get the financial support to take it all the way.

I know, tinfoil hat stuff. The media isn't rigged, the presidential debates aren't rigged, the campaigns aren't rigged, the elections aren't rigged and the government isn't spying on us either.

Good points. We do not have a parliamentary system like the UK or Israel. I'm sure there are areas where our verion excells over theirs, it's just not this one.

The sabotage of Herman Cain convinced me the whole thing is rigged. I've nearly lost my desire to even vote....although I probably still will.
